Also maybe change the default resolution from 640x480 to something like 800x600 or 1024x768.

The 640x480 resolution is the best way for my pc, I can't set it to a higher resolution or my pc will kill performances.

About the rest, this is a typical [ask zdoom].

I'm Strongly support wasd as a default or even default alternate configuration, but I would still prefer mouselook to be disabled on initial boot as it preserves the DOOM feel. (WASD doesn't break it it just makes the game playable for modern shooter players)

Hm? Very basic setup, but at least it should be workable from-the-box with some per-person customization. (Eg. Mouse settings)

cl_run shouldn't be auto, but should be auto binded to caps lock for example (if it isn't already) I support auto-enabling mouselook. Or the game should ask (only on very first boot) whether which mode to use.
Classic mode: Everything is default and feels like playing Doom.
Modern mode: Mouselook on, WASD, mouse 1-2 fire & alt fire, etc...

cl_run MUST be enabled by default. I keep see people playing different mods but constantly failing (and probably causing the team to fail too) because they are fatasses.

I gotta agree with Zzombo, there are far more drawbacks in having run off. Most notable are the dumb players who don't know about run that just become a plain nuisance in-game.

I support, this is the gold standard of playing (even though I use right click mouse for forward, I use S/A/D)

I just realized that this clashes with some of the default Strife bindings: There "w" is "showpop 1" and "a" is "+jump". Any suggestions how to resolve this? One possibility would be to use WASD only when not playing Strife.

EDIT: I just changed cl_run to default to true.

That sounds good, otherwise you could give a warning message that says some critical strife keys aren't being used when you load up strife or something.

Z - Inventory Previous
C - Inventory Next
X - Inventory Use
P - ChaseCam
T - Chat
Y - Team Chat
R - Reload (For when it's backported from ZDOOM)
U - Taunt
\ - Drop Weapon

Always Mouselook - ON

That should tackle the issue with Strife, and offers a consistent setup for all of the games. It takes care of mods that use alternate fires as well. It's also fairly close to common control setups for Source Engine games.

While there should be no problems adding default bindings (like WASD in non-Strife games), I'm not sure if changing any existing default ZDoom binding is a good idea. I guess we should vote on this.

But for example my config is entirely different from that and the first thing you do in a new game is configuring controls anyway.
So I'm against. Keep the current key bindings save WASD.

But what does this mean for Strife? As I said above, it already uses "w" and "a", so we can't use WASD there without changing existing ZDoom bindings.

I believe we should just leave Strife without WASD. Perhaps when the player first starts the game/connects to a server, let the player know to change controls if they haven't set them yet? Just brainstorming here.
