Summary0000797: Loading Skybox.wad in OpenGL "FREEZES" client
DescriptionNoticed that in newer skulltag betas (98e-120405+ versions) loading a Skybox wad or mod that includes skyboxes - upon entering map or first seeing a sector with the Skybox the entire client/game FREEZES for a few seconds (as if its loading something) then goes to normal.

Steps To ReproduceLoad wad using SKulltag.ini autoload (or manually with -file SkyboxesXX.wad)

Enter game (for example doom2 map01)

Upon spawning, game will freeze for a few seconds until sky gets loaded.

Additional Information98d/98e-3299 does not do this when loading a skybox.

Skyboxes in question are from:

'http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=16768 [^]'

Looked at the wads, only GLDEFS and the images defined.

Also can download them from my server also (incase links are down) @

'http://acebox.info/wads/ [^]'

Skybox wads are zipped as skyboxesd1.zip skyboxesd2.zip skyboxestnt.zip skyboxesplut.zip - any one of those can be used to test quickly what I'm explaining.

Thanks!

In which beta build did this first happen?

Please test the ones here and here.

Torr, I apologize - I tested everything from the recent, down to 3120 and back to 98d. Unfortunately, realized there was some configuration issue with my .ini files that I didn't notice.

I started by finding my recent beta directory, and copying my ini files over for testing - same lag. then noticed it was doing it on 3299, then all others lower. Made a clean .INI and the problem went away - didn't realize it was generating its own .INI for each beta not copying/basing off my 98d one.

I'm suspecting its a combination of my hardware, drivers, etc.. I think its caused by turning AA on in the openGl settings, I'm running a NVIDIA GTX460 with a Intel Xenon Quad(X3220). I'm also running Windows 8 consumer preview x64 for my client OS so that may also be a factor.

Again I do apologize, as I just realized its something in my INI - most likely the AA setting and my Nvidia drivers acting funky. Although I will say I don't have probs with other games and AA with this setup, so I thought it was a bug that Skulltag was experiencing. I'll do further testing before submitting something to the tracker system.

Alright, I'll close this for now then. If you find out what is causing this, feel free to re-report and we'll see if it's a bug.
