Summary | 0004230: If sv_forcegldefaults is 0, allow users to toggle bright ally icons
Description | Inspired by e-sports style games, maybe there could be an option to allow users to decide whether the ally icons are to be rendered bright in order to see other teammates better. OpenGL users can already at the moment force the game to be bright anyway on most servers, and everybody can additionally force ally/enemy colors. Quake Live apparently allows users to force "sports" and bright skins of other players. If sv_forcegldefaults is set to 1, the icons could be rendered normally like they currently are.

Thinking about this a bit more, if hypothetically added, it'd probably best to only have it affect the ally icon, as you wouldn't want players with icons having an advantage against enemies over those who don't use icons. As such, I'm changing the ticket to reflect that. |

I'll close this for now. While it might sound good on paper for regular gameplay like CTF, some server hosts don't necessarily turn off ally icons for certain PvP mods like Zombie Horde, where enemies and allies happen to use the same ally icon. A feature like this would naturally give players using bright icons a massive advantage over those who don't. |
