Summary | 0002030: Requesting markers for CTF
Description | I've been playing Shootmania recently in which I was taught by Fsn76, and I got the reflection of why wouldn't we, Zandronum players have markers introduced to competitive modes (mostly CTF) and be marking anything useful. I think this would be - in parallel with Fsn76's radar idea - an interesting feature forcing cooperation between players. I know that Water was talking about the modding capability the radar would give, such as marking things on the minimap. That doesn't have anything to do with the hud markers I'm talking about. Now, basically there would be 2 markers that would be representing an ally flag icon and enemy flag icon, even though a simple cross would as well do the job. So let's say the enemy flag carrier has stolen my team flag and is hidding for about 2 minutes, and... nobody in my team but me knows where the hell he is hiding. So I'll use my marker bind and approximately mark the area where the enemy player could possibly hide. Of course, everyone in my team will be able to see my marker. That being said, I am aware that in circumstances such in 8 vs 8 fastpaced games where the tempo is rather high, it would be too hard to use them, but on wide-ass maps, more the opposite! Now, suppose that this idea has been validated or is even moddable, I wonder which one would be better between : 1) having a limited number of markers per team (says 4 or 5) 2) having only one marker per team... if a player put a marker, the previous one will be deleted If it's the latter I'm afraid that the game get spoiled. I would also note that the markers should disappear let's say 30 seconds after they have been marked ... If a player stop using markers or forget to, that would be stupid. One last question, how many resource would this use if everyone are using markers in a 15 minutes 8vs8 game ?

I think this is a rather niche feature for one specific gamemode with particularly large player counts that won't be useful to most people. I cannot see any reason this wouldn't be moddable using map markers and some clientside scripting to filter them from enemy team members. As an engine-side feature this doesn't make any sense to me. |
