Summary | 0002027: Memory Leak with 1.3?
Description | So, most of the times that I'm playing zandronum online (normaly on bagel horde or all out war server) I get a warning (please close all programs because there's no enough memory free) so I check the task manager, zandronum says it's using 500mb, and there's no way other softwares on the list use almost all the memory, then I check the memory use, it's like 7,9 of 8gb being used. and then I close Zandronum and the memory goes back to 2gb in use, so, is there some memory leak with 1.3? because I never got this problem with 1.2 :S Example 1: ram before zan demo: 2,3GB, zandronum opened: 3,4GB (but it says zandronum is only using 333mb on process area). idk if this should be here or on the forum, but, here I go :D
Additional Information | -play for like 1 or 2 hours a bagel horde or all out war server. -You will get a warning asking you to close some apps. -record the memory (on performance area) before you open it and before you close it.

Does this happen with any other mod? Can you play it for 1 hour and check your memory usage? We need more info. |

edit: and right now, when I was watching the demo of my recording, somehow, the zandronum icon disappeared from the start bar area O_o, but it's running, and the only way I open it is by alt-tab O_o well. This is what happened 'http://i.imgur.com/AOXDi0A.png [^]' EDIT: Well, I'll try to play jump maze tomorrow, or maybe some vanilla doom... Also, here's the all out war demo 'http://www.mediafire.com/download/xdwtab4amtdstyn/aow+2.1.rar [^]' And here's where you can get the wads: grandvoid.sickedwick.net/wads/ I don't know if you can reproduce it or not by the demo, but, it's there :) |

Is it there any difference between software and GL regarding this? |
Watermelon (developer) 2014-12-16 16:36 |
Are you 100% sure this isn't due to something else on your system? |
ibm5155 (reporter) 2014-12-16 22:30 |
Yes I'm 100% sure... Well, I tested a zombie horde server with opengl and software. without zandronum the system was at 3GB, with zandronum at software it stayed at 3,5 - 3,6Gb (zandronum was using 512mb as the process area said), I played like one hour and it stayed on the same way, Then I changed to opengl, it started with 3,5gb, then it went to 3,7 , then 3,5 and then 4gb, then 4,3gb, then 4,7gb and then 5gb, and then I stoped... Plus, I'm using the onboard gpu (intel hd4000) I know it uses the main ram for the video card, but as I said, I never got this problem before. I'll try to test zandronum with the amd gpu, so there'll be no gpu using the main ram |

Ok, it happened again, since 3 or 2 hours playing bagel horde online. BUT, this time was different, it poped a windows message saying that I should close zandronum because there was not enough free memory. And this time I was using the amd hd8870m so no normal ram to vram. The weirdest thing I noticed was, the ram was 4.7 of 8gb free, and zandronum was using 350mb on process area, but the weirdest thing was the swap, it was using 10gb of 9.8gb WTF O_o... I was taking some screenshots but at one point, the screen got black, an error message appeared and the windows made a kind of forced logoff (so now I dont have the pictures)... Why this only happen with zandronum? and, why I never got this problem with 1.2 D: (I never got that kind of message since skulltag time :s ) feel free to ask anything Before I miss, It was using opengl and not software |

I have a similar problem at times. I can fix it by pressing alt+enter maybe this will work for you too for now. |

hmm I never tried alt+enter (If I remember it switch from full screen to windowed and vice versa right?). Hmm, Is there a good software to track how many ram and swap zandronum is using? (vram would be cool to see too) |

Does the problem happen offline? If so, go back to 1.2 and check whether it really doesn't happen in 1.2. Something may have changed on your system that causes this to happen, so it's worth to check whether 1.2 is affected now. |

It's not offline but here's finally, a screenshot before I run zandro and after windows say it's out of memory D: 'http://i.imgur.com/9rPOotZ.png [^]' This time I was using the intel as gpu (and before I close zandronum, it said it was using almost 2gb for the gpu) so it would be 4.7GB free before zandronum and 600mb free after the test so, from that 4.7gb free, it would rest 2.7gb, but, zandronum says it's using only 580mb right? :S Also, could it be related to the fact that I'm recording a demo file? (I'll test without recording to see if it crash too) |

So this only happens online? Please confirm that it happens on a local server with 1.3 and then check whether 1.2 is affected. |

Problem solved, the problem was the filters, I noticed with the new way to see the amd gpu vram use, I saw that it was reaching really fast 2gb of ram, and after that I think it may used some ram cache for textures... and then I just moved HQ4X to none and my vram went from 2058mb to 300mb :D It may be not a problem, but shouldn't vram drop when a map is changed? I was on who dun it doing the tests and the vram was just increasing each map D: |
