Summary | 0000909: Demo recorder
Description | Creating a standard demo format to record matches, compatible with other versions, is VERY hard. Then how about making it record in AVI, mpeg, theora, whatever? It would work more or less like this: firstly it creates the usual zandronum demo file, then it would give the user the choice of from which player he would like the video to be made (in other words, it would "convert" the demo file to a video file). This should be during the game or after it. So I think this way everyone would be happy.

It seems terribly unrealistic. Screen recorders take a lot of CPU and harddrive space, not even mentioning including it in client would be like you'd want to include spreadsheet editor. Just get fraps or bandicam... |

Avi? Do you realize how much space that would take? You're better off recording a demo normally and re-recording it with Fraps through playback. |

I believe the suggestion is for allowing easy conversion from cld to some rendered format (I would suggest WebM VP9/Opus since the encoders are free). I've actually considered adding this (albeit to ZDoom), but it's not exactly a high priority item for me. The advantages are obvious though, it could render to a 35fps file without any frame rate issues at whatever resolution is desired. Just a matter of how long you want to wait for the render to finish. :) The biggest issue preventing me from doing this is the sound. I haven't worked with fmod so I don't know if it's even possible to have it render to an offline (not realtime) buffer. |

Probably should get this in zdoom first |
