Description | Whenever a player in, say, a deathmatch session sends a chat message, it appears in the top left. However, it is often drowned out by preceding game messages and frag obituaries depending on the number of players in a server. Furthermore, opening the Zandronum console and skimming for that chat message can be challenging.
Today's first-person shooters have a chat box that usually resides in the bottom left of the HUD, such as titles made with the Source engine.
Zandronum should have just that. Ideally, it should be placed in the bottom left on top of the status bar. For the fullscreen HUD, it can be placed wherever the modder desires.
Design-wise, it should be on a translucent background, set in either the HUD font or the console font.
Pressing T should allow the player to scroll up to view earlier chat messages sent by players.
One additional suggestion is to add the player connect/disconnect/kick/ban messages. Player connect messages can also be drowned out by rapid HUD messages as well. |
