I'm not sure but....
Didn't the makers of this steal it from the Skulltag guy?

in case you didnt knew, skulltag staff got splitted up, and for not cometting some author rights issues or something like that, a part of the original staff decided to keep the source-port and rename it.

Is that an 'obvious' yes?Ænima wrote:![]()
But it's stolen from a guy who spent 10 years on it...Lord_of_D: wrote:MFW read this:gamerboy5 wrote: Didn't the makers of this steal it from the Skulltag guy?

Zandronum is a fork of Skulltag. It's not "stolen". TBH, I think Torr has done more work towards the engine than Brad Carney himself did. So it's more "ours" than his, especially since the Skulltag maps and monsters are not included by default anymore.

RE: I'm not sure but....
If you want the whole explanation, here it is:
Carnevil lost interest in skulltag and dumped it in the favor of Wrack, which is still in the beta, I think.
Now, the skulltag crew couldn't continue working on the port due to copyright and so, started this new port named Zandronum.
EDIT: Ninja'd

RE: I'm not sure but....
Also Skulltag itself was open-source at the time of the fork, so it's not really clear how or what you could steal.
RE: I'm not sure but....
I just know that Carnevil ended skulltag to focus on his other project. And that the rest of the team made this.

Carney would say yes.gamerboy5 wrote: Didn't the makers of this steal it from the Skulltag guy?
Torr would say no.
The history is very convoluted and quite dramatic, but you really just need to be told this:
1: Carnevil has his own game, Wrack.
2: Carnevil has been focusing on Wrack.
3: Carnevil was doing nothing with Skulltag.
4: Carnevil couldn't even be gotten into contact with.
5: A while back, Carnevil intentionally moved Skulltag to open-source, meaning people could see the source code and do whatever with it.
6: This was because he was focusing on Wrack and could not do much with Skulltag.
7: People have forked the project and are developing on the source code in lieu of Carnevil.
8: This is theft because
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

Didn't Alex help with this? Or get Carnbarn to reconsider?5: A while back, Carnevil intentionally moved Skulltag to open-source, meaning people could see the source code and do whatever with it.

I recall him being extremely anti-open source. I think he just caved from the vast amount of pressure being put on him about the subject. I do recall Alexmax being one of the main supporters of open source around that time frame. Then again, my memory is completely shit and I could be wrong on all fronts :V

RE: I'm not sure but....
Alex considerably helped finding a proper license and spend a lot of time properly converting our SVN repository to Mercurial so that we could host the source at bitbucket. I'd say I was the driving force inside the team to open the source, pulling a lot of strings behind the scenes. What eventually lead to the source release was not the first take at this...Ruin wrote: I recall him being extremely anti-open source.
