What's your favored duel fraglimit?

If you were to play a duel once a day, what would you prefer the fraglimit be set at?

Give me a post about your thoughts on timelimits, as well. I'd like to see what people say.

personally, the best fraglimit (I'm assuming this is for duels) is 40, because it has enough frags to where really lucky happenings dont affect the game drastically, and not too much to where the players get tired of the map/game

25, not too long but enough to smooth out abnormal results.

Once a day? Why once? 50 sounds much better in that case. I actually picked 25 as it plays faster, but I didn't read the OP when I voted for it so...

50 is better fit for serious games, 40 is euro logic. 30 I don't even know, it's an ugly number. 35... There's one? LOL!

20 and all the rest are meh, back in the day they were the shit but nowadays no one I see picks them so...

25 no timelimit maybe 10 minutes if it takes too long, timelimit encourages stalling of games tbh

I agree with Legion, I like 25 when I'm up for short games, but 40 will remove any of those unlucky repetitive spawn frags that decide the game before it's even over. Just last night I played Hydra on King1 and got the rocket launcher spawn (outside) 8 consecutive times in a row. Then another 4 at the latter of the game. 40 is good.

In such extreme cases no frag-limit can help you considering the players are even in terms of skill. That's 12 frags... you have to play about 100 frag games to make it less impacting which is something MANY people will not do. I find the "lucky spawns" reasoning for fraglimits silly.

40, not too long and not too short either. Time limit well I wouldn't have a time limit really just play until it's done, unless I'm in a rush then I'll set the frag limit to 25.

Seems to be a consensus (so far, anyway) of 40 for more serious matches and 25 for quicker games.

Interesting.

I'd personally pick 30, because of mentioned "Once a day" terms.

And I say 30 because I get bored of maps very quickly, unless I'm actually having a good time. (What with my insane variance of performance, that's rather infrequent.)

Once a day? 40. I usually play something between 5-10 casual rounds a day so 25 in those situations, it's a quick way to spend time doing something moderately engaging.

In general, 50 is the best if you are really serious about it, since duel gameplay gets more and more deep as the game gets longer. It starts morphing from simple strategies into complex game theory like "I know that you know," and "I know that you know that I know," and so forth. You start trying to predict what your opponent is trying to predict, and that's really exciting.

But that takes a lot more effort than playing something like coop, DM, or AoW, so it's too exhausting to do duels like that every day. For something as common as once a day, 20 would be much better.

The notion you are suggesting is correct, to a point. But what about tournaments for example, where 2 people are equal in skill and one player wins due to lucky spawn streaks. If the case that "lucky spawns" are silly, then a 40 fraglimit for the ZDC should not have been allowed. I just like 30 because it is the in-between for 25 & 40

I had something similar happen to me on SSL2, my opponent spawned "outside" only twice, while I spawned outside 11 times, spawning outside is basically a free-kill for the other player if you know what you're doing.
Lost by 7 in a to-25 game.

Tournaments are a different case than what I thought this topic was about. I'd be fully in favor for a tournament with a limit of 50 or even 100 - it might be a daily tournament, but then it would only last for a week or two, sort of like a Doom Marathon.

But 50 frag duels every day for years? No thanks.
