Looking back at all this drama Decay seems to be infatuated with it yet completely offended by Marks actions which doesn't really fit the character he shows as a wind up merchant, I can't remember the full circumstances of the original thread but I think Mark missgauged doom communitys reaction, Xaser was wrong though he didnt say it unjokingly lol some people have quite linear thinking I guess.

Decay wrote: I did not post for the intent of apology, I posted with the purpose of instigating several people to riot with whatever shitstorm that may have brought.
Fixed.
Catastrophe wrote: I'm looking through his posts on that thread right now and he didn't even post anything that could be warranting a ban. The worst I see is sarcasm.
Depends on who you ask. His actions, statements and encouraging of suicide may bother people or it may not. There were enough of the former to warrant a ban (of course he did break a couple of forums rules I believe).
Hell, he even apologized but a bunch of people thought he wasn't sincere.
Apparently some people thought that a forced apology is supposed to be sincere.

It seems most people think Mark is garbage, but they honestly don't care if he stays banned or not and life will continue regardless. However, if any consistency is to be upheld with regards to forum bans (aka giving x chances to certain individuals), then he probably should be unbanned. If he does something to warrant another long term ban, then ban and be done with it.

I wonder which mod did that, I clearly remember I voted yes and suddenly this tells I voted no. Given that this isn't April 1st is just making me think foul of the moderators.

Why are you guys even debating this? It's not something we as forum members should be in control of let the mods handle everything and just leave this alone.

EDIT: I just skimmed through 2 pages of the posts, you are all basically saying the same thing regarding Mark and I don't even feel inclined to read the rest

Nope.

Yep.

Unknown, but probable.

Decay wrote:Is he still telling people to put brutal doom in their skins folder?
Yep.
Decay wrote:Do you want to be any of those things?
Well of course not.

But how does that make it my concern whether or not his timed ban should or should not be extended?

A staff decision was made then, I don't see why it's suddenly up to us lowly community peons now.

As much as I think Decay's one of the funniest people to have ever been registered to the ST/Zan forums, isn't this thread kinda pointless?

Funny, that last time this mindset of leaving everything to mods without any discussion was put to action, bad things happened. Youtube bannings and master bans made out of spite, personal grudges, and emotion bias + many other things occurred. But thankfully that is in the past and things are more peaceful now. :surprised:

Looks like none of us want to be the one to actually post/say this, so here I go. Nobody wants to be "the guy that unbanned Mark", heh.

Everyone wants to think it's a simple matter ("dude's still a douche, keep him gone" or "ban expired and he's being a douche in other not-Zan places, let him go"), but it took a couple days to discuss this, and even now not all of us are entirely in agreement. But this is probably the closest thing we've come to a middle ground.

Yeah, his ban is expired. As such, it's been lifted. As has been iterated several times, we made a mistake and forgot. Whoops! Sorry, mates. Jail's open, he's free to roll.
I can already see some of our more lovable rascals rubbing their hands eagerly at this news, thinking of different ways to agitate him, but let me finish. The entire point of a ban, is to act as a discouragement for activities that leads to such punishment--it's not a binary receive X time for Y deed, like some sort of coin-op that kicks you in the junk. And, frankly, Mark has actively demonstrated that he hasn't really learned anything. Yeah, on other forums, which should be completely irrelevant to the Zandronum forums, but even the most stalwart Brutal fan can see where this is going. Everyone knows what's going to happen. Either Mark's gonna start talkin' mad shit again, or someone's gonna try and spank his jelly train.
So we're making use of Decay's wonderful earlier suggestion and putting him down on the "moderated posts" function; he'll still be able to post freely, but we'll see what he posts and what people respond to him with. If he starts parading himself around, we'll know. If someone starts trying to poke his little giblets, we'll know.

Not really an ideal solution? Hell no. Like I said, this should be a simple matter, so not all of us are really happy with this idea. I'd imagine the very first question raised would be "Why does Mark need to be put on moderation for what others are gonna say?", which is a real good question that you're gonna need to give me like fifteen minutes to think of an answer to.
But it's a solution nonetheless, so here we go.

Let's act like champs, all right?

Actually, it would be a nice idea if suspended users could only view and post their own threads. (So they could update their projects or even ask help in some thread that they made)...

If the problem continues, just lock the threads

How is this thread still alive? u.u
His ban was 2 years long. Aka, not permaban. So, he deserves to be unbanned not because he was nice Which I doubt he was, by the by[/size] but because the rules we all had agreed to follow say so.
Heck, I bet he doesn't even care about Zanzan forums anymore, he probably has enough fun over at Doomworld and Zdoom and whatever else he posts on.

That invalidates suspensions entirely; the point is NOT being able to post

I can't speak for the others, obviously, but I don't really like locking threads unless the author explicitly asks for it.
There's very rarely a topic in which absolutely everything has been said and nobody can say anything new.

Of course, that's just me. Someone else might swoop in and lock/trash this.

So, you'll only be able to posts in places like the thread of your mod projects, else suspended and banned will do the same thing (and banned with a nicer name color)

Being able to post in your own threads only is not really a punishment. I mean, fuck, suspension is a level ABOVE having your posts set to approval only

Seriously, stop. You never seem to have an idea that is practical ever from what I've seen

Being only able to post in your own threads just seems like you're being limiting just for the sake of being limiting, I don't see how that's supposed to encourage non-inflammatory posting.

We already have bans, suspensions, and post approval, I highly doubt we need house arrest styled ankle bracelets for forum members.
