What the heck.

Like seriously.

No but seriously, what is the final monster count in this one?

Unfortunately, yes.

The only reason I can think of for the author to remain anonymous is due to the heavy amounts of plagiarism in the wad. I'm really surprised not many people have a problem with this.

As for the monster count, that's pretty easy. Just go into UV in each map one-by-one and look at the monster count of each map.

As far as I know ever map in chillax is stolen from another wad. For example map 1 - 15 is from phmlspd.wad and map 47 is from vile flesh.

The wiki page doesn't elaborate much upon it though. I haven't played through all of the maps all the way to recognize anything, but then again I haven't played many recent single player wads.

And the maps that aren't apperantly stolen are utter garbage. Big square room with lots of monsters, tight hallway where you get raped, vile spam, predictable traps, 2002-era detailing, more big rooms, more vile spam, and more vile spam.

Wait, how many maps are in it? I just played it the normal 32.

I was doing singleplayer God mode, because who got time for that?

47 maps. IIRC maps 1-12 are from phmlspd and 13-17 from macabre3. Not sure however

Why do you even bother how many monsters are in it?
Players say they like the monster placement\traps in this wad while it is just 3 types of traps spammed everywhere. Might as well rename this wad to +FireyourBFGwhileCircleStrafing.

Biggest stupid things you only see in this wad :
1) A player trying to solo a single map. Not only it probably takes 3-8 hours with that, no one else can join to play -and its regulars are more than fine with that- and 99% of the time they die to a random revenant\vile.
2) Monster synergy rarely exists, The monster count is too stupidly high to allow you to use any strategy aside from "Grab this IDDQD sphere and rush to BFG 20 cybers\2000 HKs.
3) Seems to be the only wad that steals stuff and gets extra recognition for that.
4) Players keep voting the same stupid 3 maps. Oh wait like the rest aren't similar.
5) Map30 is probably the only thing that is fun to try and beat. All other maps reek with stupid monster counts and placements.

Anyway if you play this for 20 mins you'll realize any decent wad is more fun than it and its "creative" traps are all keys\doors that you shouldn't have crossed. Also mandatory BFG secrets you must know.

I dont care about how bad your maps are. Everything can be improved.

That's during the mopping-up-phase, but most of the traps are surprisingly tricky - most of them are designed to not be easy to circle-strafe.

MAP39 is one of my favourites precisely because it's very different - there are literally only 3 fights in the level (and the level has 5000 monsters), and the last fight has a lot of variety.

Issue is 3000 monsters in one room generally murders server.
Guardsoul wrote: Iirc there was also a map from Sunder (I think it was map18)
MAP18 is from macabre - which is basically proto-sunder. It's not directly from sunder.

A map from the author of sunder not from sunder itself. All of the Maps in chillax are from wads that come from the dephts of random archives. Phmlspd, macabre and gazebo's are the ones i know about. The rest? Idk.

Shit gets even worse when you add in "hard-mode" mods like Complex and Brutal.
I mean, how the fuck can anyone find Complex+Chillax enjoyable? You're pretty much insta-killed by every enemy the moment they spot you.
Hearing how the maps are also stolen from other wads just kills it for me.

I don't understand either. But I have come to the conclusion that everyone who does this are hardcore masochists. They thrive on pain. If every monster doesn't take off at least 90 health then it doesn't arouse them. We need a server with complex doom and damage factor set to x900. That is the true way to enjoy doom. Also no item respawn of course, it is far too generous.

Anyways, slightly more complete list of maps Chillax Stole:

EDIT: Alright, discovered some new ones:

MAP01 to MAP14: Phmlspd.wad (obscure thing, hard to find)
MAP15 to MAP18: Macabre3.wad (Albeit he did edit the map designs a fair bit, and MAP18 has more details)
MAP19: still trying to find it.
MAP20: finfer2.wad (another obscure hard to find thing, very different from original)
MAP21: helcv.wad
MAP22: Doom 64 "The Spiral"
MAP23 and MAP24: don't know either of these.
MAP25: Doom 64 "In the Void", except without the fog.
MAP26-37: Don't know these.
MAP38: KMega1.wad, Map 11.
MAP39 to MAP43: Don't know these.
MAP44: jthbeta3.wad, Map 22.
MAP45: Not HR2 Map 09, it's actually jthbeta3.wad, Map 09 (which in itself is a reference to HR2 Map 09)
MAP46: Macabre.wad (hard to find)
MAP47: Vile Flesh, Map 01 and Map 32 spliced together.

EDIT: So yeah I edited this list because I found some more things.

Damn, the author managed to make this map much worse than HR II MAP09 and that map is already a very annoying map. At least HR II MAP09 was pleasant to look at and had a good soundtrack. Could have at least improved on the concept.
