I have tested the BD-.018 release on the latest stable release of Zandronum with the Ultimate Brutal Arsenal Alpha, using Doom 2/ Ultimate Doom, and some Oblige created wads.
During my play testing through the canon Doom/Doom 2 wads, I encountered no errors. The previous load bug of (Expected a name, got something else) seemed to disappear. There were slight graphic bugs, but honestly those do not detract from the game experience really, but for instance- after decapitating a hell night with a rocket blast, so the head is intact, it tends to perpetually spin on the floor- something I found more amusing than game breaking. Also, in kicking a HK in his orbs was pretty hilarious as it happened when one cornered me coming out of a TP. Johnny Cage would be proud. :P
Now, when I went to play my user created Oblige wad, it seemed fine, until at every death/load I was getting that.... horrific load error. (expected a name, got something else) ((what the hell does that even mean, could someone tell me please so I at least understand why I'm losing progress?))
I cannot wait for polished versions of the Ultimate Arsenal and the eventual Brutal Doom 1.0. HOWEVER, I wait patiently for them, as projects as bad-ass as these, should not be rushed. (Even if the release for either isn't till the end of 2013.) :P

This mod is awesome, but I guess it could have some things changed:

1. Increasing Spiderdemon gun wind-up time. I can't safely jump out of cover to shoot even once, and that's a bit too hard. Cyberdemon is OK, though.

2. Remapping special weapons: MP40 to 2 or 4, Hellmissile launcher to 5, flame cannon to 5 or 7. The 8 button is often too far to switch to those guns fast.

3. Brutalized HUD. Something the same style as plasma rifle, for example, displaying all the valuable information - ammo, health, armor (along with type), current weapon, and, probably, minimap.

4. Brutality bonuses overhealing you in a manner similar to health bottles. All this rip & tear awesomeness is pretty useless when you're above 100 HP right now, but brutality could be encouraged even more with this change without affecting the balance too much.

5. Making gibbing corpses of revenants & mancubi still reward you with their weapons. Right now it doesn't make sense to have those disappear if you kick those guys' corpses.

6. Probably grenades or grenade launcher in singleplayer mode. Or just making doomguy throw armed rockets as an alternative rocket launcher fire mode.

7. Alternative flame cannon fire mode: flamethrower. It would make this weapon a lot more useful in close quarters.

8. Hellmissile launcher homing missile mode - alt fire to lock on target.

9. Ability to shoot down revenant's and (maybe) cyberdemon's rockets in mid-air. Rewarding accuracy and reaction in battles against those enemies in open areas seems like a good idea to me.

10. Removal of blood pools from laying zombie corpse sprite: they seem out of place when you kick them around.

Following the latest discoveries regarding the code here:

http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread. ... ost1144934

As we have had trouble in the past with racism around Skulltag/Zandronum in general and we don't want that image on the site (given brutal doom is one of the most well known mods here), I am going to remove all download links for this mod until it is proven that in the next version any racism content has been completely removed from the mod. Sergeant Mark, feel free to put up new links once said content is removed, but not until then. To everyone else, from what I know the next version is coming out next week or something so it won't take long, but that all depends on him.

Wow, really? All over the N-word in the comments in the code? :|

I remember seeing that quite some time ago and now people have to get in a tizzy over this. He *will* remove that bad in-joke line from the GORE3 lump for the upcoming v18

As much as it is some racism, I really believe as a species we have gotten a bit too soft and politically correct, especially Americans.

Racism is still bad by any account, just because someone may make a "light" racism joke doesn't make it any more good THAN racism in general.

Standards, we have them, we follow them, if not, think about it.

especially Americans.
Dynamo isn't even American, you dunce. On the contrary, it seems to mostly be Americans who are defending Brutal Doom.

You know, like yourself.

Meh, people who take offense to racism are people that want a reason to quarrel with others. And just because I thought it was funny does not automatically make me a racist which some of you whelps from the other forum implied.

Now for an on-topic notion: Do you happen to have the new features list for 0.18 already, Sarge?

Well, I read through the Doomworld topic, one post in particular caught my attention
Blue Shadow wrote:About the apology thing: I don't know... Mark totally knew before hand that what he did was wrong and bad, but despite that, he carried on with it anyway. It's like committing a crime, then apologizing for doing it (I'm comparing the wrongness of the two, no more no less).

To me, Mark seems to like controversy. First the real gore stuff, and now this. With controversy comes attention, with attention comes popularity. It's like what he already gets from both, thanks to the Brutal Doom, aren't enough!

And yes, I'm not a BD fan. I don't play it (though I tried a very old version, when it was a gameplay mod). It's not my cup of tea, due to several reasons, one of which Tarnsman and Kmxexii had pointed out few posts above.
Brings up the question, why EXACTLY was the racist comment added?

What gets me is the controversy about the "Real Gore". There's a number of video games have made assets such as textures from real photographs of death and gore, others, inspired extremely heavily by viewing said photos (an example would be Dead Space). This is nothing new or shocking. Also, looking at the addon, you hardly can even tell, as the downsizing, palette restriction, and pixelation make it look a bit cartoony anyway.

I'm already pretty desensitized to pretty much anything, so nothing really shocks or surprises me anymore. Doesn't mean I condone things like genuine racism or brutal violence against real people/animals/etc... but sure, Mark made a very off-color and tasteless joke... do I think he intended any harm in it, or was trying to make a legitimate stab at black people? No.

I'll admit I've made plenty of racist jokes in my time, some even worse than this one, not with the intention to offend of course. But, does that mean I'm actually racist? One of my closest friends is black, we trade racist jokes all of the time, and we laugh and carry on as if it were nothing because we know we mean nothing malicious by it. One of the things both he and I can agree with, is that black people are awesome like anyone else in the world, but n*****s are another story. (It's a Chris Rock joke, look it up.)

Oh, speaking of the brutal gore and violence in the mod... as just downright non-goofy, gritty and tasteless it is, that doesn't mean that Mark is going to be the next Columbine Killer. The level of gore and violence in Brutal Doom isn't even new in the industry. You want something that is just plain unadulterated violence and gore in a retro form? Buy and Play Hotline Miami on Steam. Want something more realistic? Soldier of Fortune 2: Double Helix(Speaking of games that have assets made from real photographs).

I can't speak for Mark, but, if the comment in the code made me chuckle in a carefree way after I had found out about it, does that make me an asshole too? Even if I go out of my way most of the time to be kind, caring, and polite to most of the people I interact with? Not saying I can't be an asshole at times though. Really depends on my mood. Needless drama tends to bring my sarcastic/cynical side out.

Please refrain from using that term on this board. Joking or not.

Alright, edited. Just making a point, not trying to cause a big ordeal. (IMHO, I shouldn't have to censor that though as it isn't being used in a malicious manner. I'm moreso just quoting Chris Rock there. Context is key when it comes to words!)

If he wanted politeness, he would have been polite first. What goes around comes around, it's how the world works.
