Incorrect, my friend. Their last update was before Skulltag closed its doors, when the last stable was 98d. And what is MM8DM using? 98e.
98e is outdated compared to current Zandronum alphas.

Actually, this is where you're wrong as well. What version is MM8BDM using? 3216. What is the latest 98e version? 3417 (Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong, please)

For those who are annoyed by the server list in IDE, here is a simple solution:

Click on the big F button on the IDE toolbar to bring up Server list filters. Check "IWads", add "megagame.wad" into the list and click the icon next to IWads until it shows "Hide server". OK.

Not a rocket science, huh.

This.

Making a big deal out of a few megaman servers is silly.

This. "Outdated alpha" meant they always use alphas, but they're never the most recent.

i miss those ol' time of GVH :´(

from my point:

i think mm8bdm is good game as many here said not have nothing of doom (?) use the same engine but not is the same! is like duke nukem 3D and doom, they both use the same engine maybe DN has a better one but is almost the same (if don't trust on me see credits of Duke Nukem 3D) , and you can filter servers if you don't want see Megaman servers or if you only want see em', you have many players asking how to use them because most of em' are kids, maybe you can make a configuration and zip all them, obviously those configurations should be easy to play or maybe a quick installer and if they only register to forum for ask how they can play it you can do the same thing as doomworld, before register there is a big question if you want register because you want talk or because you have problems with doom (how i can run it? why it don't run? etc.) and you can make topic for explain how to play it, if you use the trick of doomworld

Is there a way to do this in Doomseeker? It has a "filter" option but it's not for excluding things.

IMHO this is heading in the completely wrong direction. Instead, once Zandronum 1.0 is released, MM8DM just should use the public Zandronum binaries so that people can easily play MM8DM and everything else with the same installation. MM8DM is a mod (at least last time I checked, I didn't check since we open sourced Skulltag) and I think it should be treated as such, not as entirely separate game. Of course MM8DM can keep its launcher and distribute the Zandronum binaries, but if you install IDE you should be able to use all public Zandronum servers with your MM8DM installation. If you don't want to see MM8DM servers, make sure that your launcher is smart enough to filter these out. Artificially separating the Zandronum/Skulltag players into different isolated sections IMHO does more harm than good.

Exactly, like the doom community needs ANOTHER split... ugh.

I agree, I see no reason why our brothers in the fight against evil can't share the same network. For the same reason that Chex guest and Strife are part of our community, and we should not scare people away from our user base.

On the other hand, It's worth noting that the MM users are a lot less tech-savy then the average Skulltag/Zandronum user. It's important to keep in mind that within the doom community, accessibility has often come last. I would like to see the interface and control system updated to modern standards, especially stuff like WASD and space for jump (although it should be off for singleplayer by default :P).

Other then that, I wish to complement Cutman with his work, and although nothing is perfect in this world, Cutman has done a good job creating interest in MMDM and in our community.

Last but not least, how about an extra blacklist for .wad files in doomseeker? I won't add MMDM, but I will add Zombie Horde...

As I've said on IRC, if anything MM8BDM is a filter; those intelligent enough to determine that it's based on Skulltag will be able to find their way here, and the rest will stick to the 8bittyness. :)

Thankyou Torr! We'll be moving over to Zandronum for the next update to help shift things away from Skulltag (hopefully 1.0 is out by then) and get it's (awkward) name out a little

I totally support this idea! I agree with Torr (and Frits from the other thread) that separation does more harm than good and that we should allow them to stay with us when we release Zandronum 1.0 as a stable build.

If we separate when we move to Zandronum, the MM8BDM community doesn't actually have anyplace to go and they will end up sticking to ST 98d & 98e - the builds would then become severely outdated and they would have no developers to help them catch up. Even if we both moved together and still create a separate master server for the MM8BDM community, we would lose a lot of players, not to mention the fact that the community itself might not support having its own master server.

^ Amen brother.

What I'd actually like to see is the next release of MM8BDM include a customized build of ZandroNet with a MM8BDM-only featured content zone, a nice big "start single-player" button and obfuscation of things like the "start with shotgun" flag that are of zero importance to MM8BDM.

Code: Select all

[15:53:14] balrog: one day, the original mm8bdm devteam from mfggu and i will meet in valhalla and we will be friends

Code: Select all

<ijon>well fuk
<ijon>guess I gotta suck dicks now

Code: Select all
