Any horror/thriller movie suggestions?

#1

Post by Slyfox » Wed Oct 02, 2013 4:43 pm

My favorite movie genre is obviously the thread title. I like movies with amazing suspense that has the room feeling so quiet a pen dropping would sound like breaking glass. [obvious over-exaggeration] Y'know, good scary movies that don't need to rely solely on jump-scares to kill the crowd [which is pretty funny since I'm one to turn my volume to 100 on wads like Gf3] I've watched:
Spoiler: Behold (Open)
Insidious [fuckin' atrocious]
Phycho
All saw movies [except the last one]
Silence of the lambs
All paranormal activity movies
All final destination movies
28 days later
Nightmare on elm street [the later one]
The zodiac
Quarantine
Clover-field
Doom [meh]
The grudge
Resident Evil
Zombieland
Texas chain saw massacre
Prom night
Scream 1-3
Piranha
Rosemary's baby
The mist
Dawn of the dead
The last house on the left
The collector
Room 1408
Funny games
and a bunch I don't remember atm

And the films I have yet to watch but want to are:
Carrie
Insidious 2 [maybe]
You're next
Jacob's Ladder
The shining
Roman Polanski's The Tenant
R-Point
I Saw the Devil
Dark Water

so..... any suggestions??

The Shining. Pretty much the only horror film I really liked.

Benny's Video
Cache (hidden)
Funny Games
Suicide Club
Noriko's Dinner table
Frontiers
Ring 1 & 2 (and the Jap films, both good imo)
Dark Water
The loved ones
Hard Candy
ABC's of death
Martyrs
Frontiers
Grotesque
Hostel films
Blare witch project

Rosemary's baby was a big joke. So was Stephen Kings "It". Cabin in the woods was alright. Not going to lie, the grudge scared the shit out of me, along with the ring. I'm horrible with shock movies or things that slowly crawl towards you.

Wow I was literally JUST about to say Jacob's Ladder. One of the best psychological thrillers of all time, and the ending was just "WUUUUUUUUT".

It was also the main inspiration for Silent Hill 2, soooo yeah.

If I remember right, for SH: Homecoming. I'd say that game is a half of Jacob's Ladder scenario.
Anyway I recommend "I Saw the Devil"

Jacob's Ladder is pretty good.

If you're into foreign stuff, I liked R-Point.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

I found cabin in the woods to be really bad. Thought it was gonna be dead clever but it wasn't.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

It's quite horrifying to know that you could one day be a stereotypical mexican embodied inside a dog.

Bob the Builder.
Definitely one of the most scariest movies I've ever seen. Bob builds monstrosities all around.

I prefer psychological horror and the whole "mysterious incomplete narrative" subgenre. If you like that sort of thing, I recommend V/H/S and Dark Star, though the latter is a comedy as much as it is horror. H.P. Lovecraft's Re-Animator is pretty good too.

Hells yeah, Herbert West. \m/

Oh I forgot to mention, Eraserhead is fucking amazing if you like being given the heebie-jeebies.

OH, and Roman Polanski's The Tenant, which is more of a psych thriller than a "horror" movie. This one requires some patience though as there's a lot of talking, much of which is in French.

Evil Dead
The Conjuring
The Skeleton Key
The Unborn
What Lies Beneath
The Last House on the Left
[REC] 1-2
*The following are EXTREMELY gory and shocking movies, some don't even fall in the horror category. Watch at own risk*
Cannibal Holocaust
Ebola Syndrome
Philosophy of a Knife
Taxidermia

Well, these are just quick suggestions, I really rather recommend the first ones, and the extreme ones only if you want to watch something really brutal.
