Well, for one, the FGC is an entire genre. That's like saying "shooter fans" instead of Doom fans.Disintegrator wrote:Isn't the FGC big enough?
...and when you look at that broad a community, yes, shooter fans do plaster their stuff everywhere.
The TF2 community alone is a magnificent example.

Oh christ, I remember when this sort of topic was posted on the old Skulltag forum. That was back when I thought trolling was hilarious and I'd do it just by waving my furfaggotry around in the absolute most obnoxious and stereotypical way I could.
Needless to say that was fucking stupid and I'd like to think I grew out of that.
Aaaaanyway, I actually see plenty of people plastering their Metroid/Doom/Fighting Game "fandom" on every community they inhabit. The difference is that those things are far more... normal (or at least socially acceptable), so people generally don't give a shit. That and there are not thousands upon thousands of porn pics of them.

RE: People who dislike 'Bronies' and 'Furries'
Again, you display some very powerful points. I do understand and see that some bronies feel the need to plaster ponies everywhere, but is it really that noticeable? I didn't even know it was a problem until I started watching the show. But that's probably because I didn't let something as stupid as fans of TV show concern me. I heard about the bronies, but I didn't really care. An occasional meme or Youtube Poop would pop up, but I never saw it other than that.Disintegrator wrote:Ok. Let me break this down. Yes, some other communities (keyword: SOME) create fanart, some other communities create remixes and some others create fanfiction. However, I don't fucking see Doom fans, or Metroid fans, or Fighting game fans plastering their goddamn fandom on every fucking community they inhabit or every fanart they make. Sure they might make an avatar or a banner relating to it but that's about it. It's not shoved in the face of everything they do. Most (Read: Nearly all) bronies and such proudly display it as some sort of fucking banner on everything they do. They have to cross over things that don't make any fucking sense together just for the sake of having their precious ponies there (I understand the Metroid community has done some crossovers but they make sense i.e. Metroid and Halo, both are set in space, have heavy sci fi elements, etc.)nightshade94 wrote: From what I've read, a lot of you have really valid points. Yes, bronies and haters can be as equally as annoying by spreading the fandom everywhere on youtube and message boards.
But to say that only bronies do that is an understatement. Every fanbase does this. Even us Doomers are guilty of the same annoyances bronies cause. Just like the brony fandom, we create fanart, music remixes, new mods, and fanfiction (Yes, there's Doom Fanfiction.). Just like the bronies, we have haters that call Doom a shitty, pixelated mess of a game that shouldn't be played because it's old. I'm sure in other message boards in the internet, you can probably find threads related to Doom.
So in the end, it's nothing but a cycle. You have the fans, and you have the haters. Both groups will argue against each other, annoying the ones that aren't a part of either group. This isn't just a Brony issue, it's an issue for everything. Star Wars VS. Star Trek, Lego VS. Megabloks, Xbox VS. PS3, Battlefield VS. COD, the list goes on.
Just accept the fact that for everything we love, they'll be people that will hate it, and vice versa. It's a battle that can't be won.
On the topic of haters, yes, there are retard 12 year olds that think that a game is made by the graffics it displays, but most of the points made against Doom aren't very valid and usually are a matter of nitpicking and opinion. Now most of the MLP hatred doesn't come from the show itself, but rather, it's community. I have good reason that CoD wouldn't be despised so much if it wasn't released every fucking year or it's community wasn't full of retard kids, edgy teenagers and such other scum. The hatred of the series comes directly from it's fucking community, you guys asked for it, and now you have to go through the backlash.
This little quote is a perfect example of what I'm talkin bout Willis. See, who the fuck needs to know you like ponies? Who wanted to know? Did anyone ask for it? Was the thread even about that in the first place? Considering the amount of hatred bronies and their ilk get in the web, you should probably have a good idea that most people WILL react negatively, whether you like it or not. It's the equivalent of being a girl in an online game and demanding for respect when things don't go your way, you're stepping blindly into a virtual minefield buddy.nightshade94 wrote: A mature community doesn't care if you love ponies. I fucking love ponies.
Last year, I had this annoying kid in my class who wouldn't stop talking about superheroes. He kept telling me how awesome Deadpool was and if I had seen the newest episode of some Avengers cartoon. I haven't even seen the movie, and superheroes aren't really my thing anymore. But I'm not going to hate the whole community because a certain percentage of it is annoying.
The only brony activity I ever see online is on brony websites, this thread, and brony videos on youtube. You have to expect fans to pull this crazy shit, because they will do it. The only solution is to live with it.
That was the mature community thread. I responded to it in the most immature way possible. Very clever though to use it against me.nightshade94 wrote: A mature community doesn't care if you love ponies. I fucking love ponies.

RE: People who dislike 'Bronies' and 'Furries'
Hopefully I don't bring this off topic, but I would suggest putting large quotes in spoiler tags.
Also, though the discourse is reasonable so far, I want to stress that some points were addressed earlier (some of which in my posts on the first page), so basically I advise avoiding circular back-and-fourth arguments.
To contribute, while I am thankful that everyone here is trying to be reasonably civil, I think the "bigger issue" also stands. It's not just two or three subsets or subcultures that trigger or create negative responses in others, but a larger and more general set of problems that have been overlooked due to the pure shock factor of the greater "labeled" communities/cultures like "bronies' or "furries" et al.
EDIT: vvvvvv If it's any consolation, "anypony" is basically just a part of the fictional grammar from within the show's universe, and big/obsessed fans are simply using that as sort of an in-joke or code to see who is also a fan. It's like a secret handshake, but due to the nature of the internet it's not really secret.

I still really don't see why it should bother you that much. Does one's voiced affinity for something really get in the way of you playing Doom? Does seeing ponies/furries/marijuana-related avatars really detract from the experience that you came here for? Why should our interests and they way in which we express them have any bearing on your overall happiness?Decay wrote: Arguably, people come here to play Doom, a violent game rated for people aged 17+. Let's talk hypothetically here, then.Frankly, it does get annoying. Sure go ahead and post your likes and desires, once, twice, three times, but we don't need to see it over and over and over and over. We get it already. For the love of all that is sacred, just... cool your damn jets.
Can I ask you to take down your comic book avatar, because I think superhero comic books shouldn't be read by people of your age, and I don't like seeing it over and over?
Actually, don't even need to speak hypothetically. The answer would probably be several variations of "no", probably along with an explanation if you're not actually into comics.

I agree that as much as we dislike it, we can't just tell people to stop going on about their interests. Decay does have a point though, people should show a little more restraint, primarily because we don't like seeing the same posts about Sonic/furries/MLP everywhere. Say I like Brutal Legend; you might see a few posts about the game, but you don't see me running around everywhere with an Eddie Riggs avatar, religiously listening to the soundtrack, flooding everything with Brutal Legend fanart/fanfic and shipping Lita with Ophelia.TerminusEst13 wrote:Does one's voiced affinity for something really get in the way of you playing Doom? RE: People who dislike 'Bronies' and 'Furries'
It started annoying me when they tried - en masse - to post ponyporn on one of the forums I regular.
Said forum is strictly SFW, so you can see why it annoyed me and a lot of other people especially when the term 'ponysecution' was then thrown around.
It's the obsessive must-post-all-of-it-everywhere people who ruin it for everyone else, regardless of what it is.
I don't care about your avatar, but for goodness sake, I don't need the entire internet's collected fanart of it on every forum I visit.

Pretty much sums up what I think alongside Decay's posts. The only thing I personally have against bronies/furries/whoever is that I'm kind of sick of the reputation zandronum has ("the port of furries and bronies" and whatnot) and I think this place would look a lot more respectable in the eyes of many if all that shit was taken down. Then again, I guess that wouldn't be fair to those who want to display their 5 years old girls cartoon avatars on a forum about doom.Hypnotoad wrote: I don't hate bronies, I find it an amusingly cringeworthy and epically trollable subculture. It's common knowledge that if you show your "pony flags" on the internet you are likely to get trolled in certain communities, and since it is the case here, why do you even bother to do that? Keep it to yourself so we're straight and no shit goes down.

Actually IIRC, FIM is intented to make mature people "not feel weird" for watching it.
I'm not a brony, I watched MLP once. It was funny but... Not something i'd watch more often. Neither a hater, I've seen a lot of people I respect become bronies. But yeah, I guess it would be annoying if someone tries to shove it in your face a lot. I haven't seen that yet, though, maybe I've been lucky, hehehe...

RE: People who dislike 'Bronies' and 'Furries'
I guess most of bronies are OK, just... At first I was glad guys challenged the need to be supermasculine and tried to find some friendly and caring side, but then I saw this all rape fantasies, "I WANT TO COME INSIDE RAINBOW DASH" and other r34 stuff. There is a biiig percentage of people with problems, who instead of trying to solve them are looking for similar people and convince themselves having tulpas (self-induced psychosis resulting in imaginary friends) or social contract breaking deviancies (pedophilia, rape fetish) is not that weird after all. (look at this: http://zandronum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1690 or pony thread simulators on YouTube). My best friend is a brony though, and he's OK, I suspect there must be a lot OK bronies, but the weird cases are always louder.
About furries... I am pretty suspicious of them, as I remember from tumblr a lot of furry drama queens who feel they hobby or fetish should be protected and respected in the same way as being gay or transexual should be. Also, frankly, the antrophomorphic art is not in spectrum for what I find aesthetic, but well, it's the Internet, whatever rustles your jimmies.
But well, if you do not do shit like that, I will not call you out on being brony or furry or whatever.

I don't think this is about being "masculine" at all (for a friendly and caring side you got Zelda I guess anyways), it's about decency. Let's pretend you're a pony fan, and a lot of people hate them, so just keep watching the show and keep it all for yourself. Being able to piss everyone off without giving reasons to be legitimally banned is like a golden ticket for a troll. So I somehow have a big suspicion those guys were as much of a bronies as guys who go to SNS with [HOMIE] clan tag are true fans of a popular mod.Dynamo wrote: But don't come to SNS under stupid rainbow dash aliases and start spamming the most obnoxious crap imaginable and then defend yourself with "we gotta love and tolerate".
