Since Torr's question remains unanswered I determine this statement is a fallacyibm5155 wrote: I was going to say to some admin to just close this thread, but I actually wanted to see what you guys would repply.
Since now everything was explained so I just think there's no need to continue posting here.
Close this thread pls :)

Then what exactly is the logical reason to suggest that? Let alone do it.

It was more about people with Windows 98 wouldn't have enough hardware to run zandronum, neither ide.Cruduxy wrote: Then what exactly is the logical reason to suggest that? Let alone do it.
Zandronum focus is multiplayer, I just thinked there wasnt a need to support a so old system where the multiplayer part doesn't work under 98 (And I'm talking about Doomseker)...
But with more user search it can work, just need to find a very old ide version that's not hosted anymore into ide oficial website, plus, search for some specific dlls that are needed to run zandronum 3.0 (I think it was related to the database system or it was another new stuff).
Then you just need to deal with the loading gui that doesn't work under 98 and the unstable gameplay

RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
I am more interested in the XP reason.
If someone still uses win98 today they are probably familiar with all the problems they'll encounter (And sure running zandronum is low on the list) and keep it for specific tasks (Server hosting) instead of playing games. Pretty sure its unstable because you hate software and tried to run it in opengl.

RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
You make it sound as if Win98 support is costing us anything. It does not. We can simply continue supporting Win98 by doing nothing. Once we have to actively do something to stay Win98 compatible, the thing is a whole different story. By now it doesn't make sense to spend resources just to maintain Win98 compatible, but it doesn't make sense to spend resources just to deliberately break Win98 support either.ibm5155 wrote: Zandronum focus is multiplayer, I just thinked there wasnt a need to support a so old system where the multiplayer part doesn't work under 98 (And I'm talking about Doomseker)...
I don't recall any additional external dependencies in 3.0. Database support was already in 1.3 and the necessary SQLite functionality is statically linked into the Zandronum binaries.ibm5155 wrote: search for some specific dlls that are needed to run zandronum 3.0 (I think it was related to the database system or it was another new stuff).

rofl no, I can only run it at software, but actually I prefer Doom Legacy to play on that machine, more because of the glide render, and because any modern mod would run at 0fpsCruduxy wrote: sure its unstable because you hate software and tried to run it in opengl.

RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
Ok, after the new cpu upgraded I changed my mind.
-It's playable, it runs most maps in software just fine.
-It can plays now something using opengl now (1fps to 46fps in normal case in e1m1)
-The gpu does only support 256x256 textures and also is limited to opengl 1.1, but with a tool I managed it to run (WickedGl I Think)
But, I don't know if it's Qt related that Doomseker is the only thing that isn't running (with or without kernelex).
Also the cpu before was a Pentium MMX 233MHz and now it's a K6-III+ 400MHz (+256kb L2 cache + 1mb L3 cache), I may had taken a K6-III+ 500MHz but they were too expencive for such old cpu
EDIT: The opengl compatibility mode in zandronum 3.0 is now gone? :(

RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
I still use Windows XP. Keep the compatibility. As for 98, I think it's safe to say nobody uses it anymore.
RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
With windows 10 out now, i think it's safe to say we can start with dropping support for windows 7.

Windows 10 sucks! If you really want to feel yourself like an arch-linux user, just install windows 10.Frits wrote: With windows 10 out now, i think it's safe to say we can start with dropping support for windows 7.
Compatibility breaks and shitty fonts are bundled!
Everybody is still using windows 7. :3

No offense, but Windows 7 has become the new XP. I know I'm not touching Windows 10 with a 10 thousand-foot stick for a good long while.Frits wrote: With windows 10 out now, i think it's safe to say we can start with dropping support for windows 7.

RE: Drop windows 98 support for zandronum?
I installed the Windows 10 in a 8 years old notebook.
There're no gpu drivers for it (neither for Windows 8.0) but the Windows 7 drivers Works just fine (the only draw side is that the hardware aceleration for vídeos is not working in 4k vídeos anymore),sound card Works, resistive touch screen Works, finger reader working on the go with Windows hello, and even screen bright control working :O ...
Just saying, I do even took some screenshots from Windows 10 running 16BITS WINDOWS 3.1 APPS!!!!.
I just think people that say any thing about win 10 is because they are just reposting what 1% of users said on the net (and they didnt even tested it).
Also, install gentoo if you're the os expert.
