Well, at the end doesn't it do the same thing? or there's a distant limit for the tracers?

In the image, the player fires the bfg north, and then faces east, and then wonders why the bfg spray doesn't work.

This should give a better explanation on how it works.

Haha no.

http://doomwiki.org/wiki/BFG9000#Combat_characteristics
http://doom2.net/doom2/facility/bfg.html Section 3A, 4E and 5A

This is old and well known knowledge among DM players, and usage strategies (especially duel) revolve entirely around it. Some people don't and think it's limited to only running up pointblank like a big SSG or shooting a corner and peeking out for the rays.

The tracers are very damaging, with just one being able to heavily wound a player and two more than capable of killing him. Considering that 40 tracers spread out 90° leaves an average of around 2° between each one, you have to be at a distance to only be hit by only one.

EDIT: Quoted as it's not in response to OP

Excuse me but you're also the guy who loves to make extremely redundant, incorrect and/or stupid remarks about many threads. So, Decay is kind of right about you in that regard.

Also, the picture is somehow not appearing on my end, so I can't tell much about what's going on.

EDIT: Ok, after having been sent the message by Medicris, I can easily say wtf!? How did you guys mess something so basic and fundamental to the game, up? Like, it's ridiculous. Is this confirmed to happen at all?

ok ok. I'll stop writing stuff, even more directly from phone because it just spoils everything I wrote...
And about technical stuff, I kinda know how the bfg works, but I'm having a bit trouble explaining about it, but, that's not the topic's focus...
As I wrote before, at the end, the bfg doesn't the same thing on both cases?

Well I like that image, it's surely handy for explaining BFG to newbies.

Would be handy if someone re-uploaded the picture, because I'm also quite interested in what actually is going on here.

Not the same image, but it was something like this (like Kara Kurt first image, but in zandronum case, the imp isn't killed and he kills the doomguy)

I'm surprised that a lot of guys don't understand how the BFG works it's kinda obvious, and it doesn't make radius damage like the rocket launcher, that why I keep telling that the bfg isn't a good weapon at long range.

Oh. I thought it worked that way, but with the additional requirement that enemies would only be hurt by the spray if they are in your field of view. In other words, I knew that the spray comes from your current location, and I knew that the direction you face when the spray is emitted does not affect the direction of the spray, but I thought incorrectly that the direction you face affects whether the enemies are damaged by the spray.

Now that that is cleared up, the question is why in the world does Zandronum have such a weird cone shape for the BFG?

Can we get something useful like a demo or source code instead of some cute pictures? Might actually be able to answer your question then.

This is why I never ever use the BFG. Especially when it takes ~250-400 ping in to consideration.

Edit: Only projectile weapon I can use is the Skulltag Grenade Launcher and similar.

The BFG's tracer can be used as an advantage when used at +or- long range, you should play 1v1/ffa sometimes.

Tell me the link with that, BFG is present on each gametype, I'm wrong ?
And if I say that it's not good at long it's because even if you wait for the ball to explode at a long distance, the chance for you to keep your place are very low when you are attacked by monsters or players, you will be forced to move and it won't have the splash effect, so your comment is pointless.

Not every time.

Do you realize using the BFG agains't a player differs fro mits utilization in coop as monsters don't take cover or try to anticipate/counterattack you? (it sucks to go into details when one do not only content to play in coop, my statement being so obvious)
the chance for you to keep your place are very low when you are attacked by monsters or players, you will be forced to move and it won't have the splash effect, so your comment is pointless.
Which is why I'm saying you should play duel or watch some decent demos sometimes. I didn't mean to upset you when saying that.

The BFG is not only about spamming but when you've got 80 Cells you can use them very wisely. Says you're playing Entryway and your opponent is camping/spamming Plasma; you're in the blue room and you know that if you rush him you're pretty much dead but if you synchronize 2 BFG attacks (like a silent BFG at wall in front of blue room then the second in one of the long corridor side walls) just like this:

Image

With this method you can make use your BFG pretty
effectively... at long range.
so your comment is pointless.
Okie dokie.
