Doom Explorer - new launcher for Doom

Doom Explorer is a new launcher that is based on IDE. Virtually all components of IDE were substantially revised and improved. Among them are:

  • A significant increase in the refresh rate of servers
  • Various styles of the program interface
  • Full control over the server and player tables - you can move, resize and hide any column in the table
  • Wads control, selection one of multiple copies with true checksum (if the port allows)
  • Improved support for demos, full display of the demo info (as possible)
  • Significantly redesigned start server page interface, added a large number of parameters
  • Improved support for a single mode for the most popular ports
  • And much more ...

Slow refresh rate was my biggest problem with ide so i'm checking this out for sure.
Now come and play some more dm bond ;)

DM has always been a ZD thing.

Refresh rate speed is also customizable and it can refresh alot faster.

Bond is it possible to improve filters, and add an option like hidding servers containing a keyword? Example: [LA].

add server name *[LA]* and select option 'Hide server'

I love everything about the new update (especially the much-needed visual makeover), but I have one small complaint. I'd like the old input "autocompleting text field with dropdown option" for the singleplayer PWADs box to be ported back: the new dropdown button doesn't work well and is slower.

Video clip example

Can't do this anymore. Enter doesn't work to add, up/down keys don't look where the last selection left off, and autocomplete likes to randomly think every letter is the first letter to look for. Needing a lot of clicking, it feels clunky now. Everything else relies on tedious manual open file file dialogs, .cfgs, what have you, so IDE's always been a great exception.

Just the two cents I hope to be considered in a future update, IDE's the only launcher that was so fast and easy like this and kept a "database" of wads to quickly sort through and use.

On an offtopic note, thanks for fixing support for files with spaces in the path.

EDIT: Oh, and the Add button doesn't turn into a Replace button on loading a config. Can't edit my configs now. Oops.

Don't listen to him! hes lying (theres a reason that #deathmatch exists!)

Now ontopic, I am loving this new sweet browser but I also agree with what medicris has pointed out.

But despite that, 10/10 would use again.

I'm not saying it's a better port to play DM on or Zan DM is shit, just saying that DM happens about 90% of the time on ZD and it usually lasts long.

Anyway, as asked here already would it be possible to choose another default location for DoomExplorer.ini?

I don't see how they're any different. There's skins included accessible in the options menu.

I wish to make a portable install, so I'd like to be able to include DoomExplorer.ini in the main folder of the app, and have it work.

2 bugs I found with this so far:

-Why doesn't it save the OpenGL preference under 'Single Player' menu that's annoying

-Demo Recording doesn't appear to work, IDE used 'Zandronum Demos' for the default directory here it just uses 'Demos' I clicked the button at the top of the Launcher so it's 'Red' (because green is a more confusing colour right?) Joined servers for 30 secs then exited, no demo file (.CLD) at all.

It does. But surprisingly it doesn't record ZD 1.09 demos. Check up your \appdata\roaming\doomexplorer folder.

check the path in Multiplayer->Options->Base demos folder, starting from there DE creates two subfolders(\Demos\Zandronum or whatever port you played).
In case you don't have any zandronum subfolder at all, does your base demos folder's path contain spaces by chance?

I'm sure nobody uses the Add. Command Line Param thing in Launch options but.. It seems you cannot add another line to the list there. One thing that's bugging me.

I do on a regular basis to set mod-specific cvars on launch and start/join netplay games. I'd very much like that section to have word wrapping so it's all easily visible; why make such a big box when it only uses one line?

Pretty sure a red circle is the universal symbol for "recording" armi :p
