Interest in Public CTF has been on the rise, which is fantastic. However, this brings with it the problem that anything above 6v6 becomes chaotic...the IDL mapset simply was not designed to harbor so many people and most matches turn into blockfests.

So, I've been experimenting with running unblock players on in Public IDL CTF for the past week or so. I've heard mixed reactions to this, so I'd like to catalog your opinions. What do you think of the experiment?

Yes. Being blocked by teammates makes the game more stressful than it needs to be. Unblock players makes the game less aggravating.

I'm very OK with this being in pubctf.

If there was a variant for teamgames that only let you pass through your own teammates that's be great but I'm not sure how necessary that is.

That team-only unblock would actually pretty cool and a nice middle ground for those torn between yes and no. However, for now I'm going to have to vote for 'on above a certain player count'. One thing that was very annoying was that players of the other team could just run through me instead of actually having to dodge my shot. There were also times where the wrong person got shot (flag runner was suppose to die) because of everyone running through each other in the midst of the chaos of trying to return the flag.
Projects

EonDM - With Hatred as my sidekick.
RageCTF - Made 1 map and did much more.
DBAB LMS - Pack made for Last Man Standing.
EonWeapons - Improve vanilla weapons and add stuff for kicks.
Progressive Duel - Leaving the old behind.
IDL201X CTF - Maintaining since 2013.
Strife AA - Helped tested + 1 map

We need the teammate only one already. Not being able to block enemy runners sucks.

Definitely above if only above a certain player count, which is probably 5 or 6.

Very much this.

Unblocking may be a boon to prevent getting cut off by friendlies, but you lose the ability to block an enemy in the process.

Why not have the best of both worlds? Same with projectiles - friendly rockets pass through, enemy ones don't.

Perhaps someone formulate either a compilation of larger maps from these popular CTF mods, with permission of course, and/or even create more maps. Not just for the sake of larger maps, but also reduce the blandness of overplayed maps perhaps?

But... Did you even read what the pull request is about?
sv_unblockplayers now works with different classes and only with teammates.
And as I said in the exact same ticket you should use +THRUSPECIES if you're going to use custom classes in decorate since it was made for this very purpose instead of relying on a dmflag..

I wasn't talking about your pull request, my quotes were just alluding to the notion that the current behavior is a bug, which I disagree with.

Nothing worse for me when you've killed a few guys, got out of the enemy base with the flag, and some teammate blocks your run and you're shot from behind just as you're about to score.

I vote yes for unblocking, it could even make some maps like 14 from totally unplayable to barely playable which is well, at least some small improvement.

yes please, not only is it extremely frustating that teammates block you while you cary a flag (like swift said). but i also lagg insanly hard whenever i collide with other players, idk why.

I agree with teammates only because one of my strategies for defending is to block the runner when he has the flag. However it would be nice if I didn't get blocked by one of my teammates 5 inches from the flag :|

Ah yes, being blocked by your own teammates as a runner is definitely fun and not stressful at all, nosir.

No. There are other ctf servers hosted using larger maps but people simply like playing idl maps. Myself included as it makes for good practice when playing priv.
