inb4 Doom Beta has the same fallout as did Battlefield 4. As in, long loading screens, bsod's, games crashing at the end of matches, thus you never get the XP gained... Oh, and lets not forget, how they DIDN'T fix any of that at Release, but rather later on as a Patch...

He nailed it. Never Pre-Order a game unless you would buy it even if every reviewer said it was good bad and you would still buy it even if your best friend told you it's junk.bazzoka wrote: Let this video speak for it self...

I'm pretty sure that both the new Wolfenstein and Doom 4 will be terrible games. I'm waiting for both them to come out to *try* them out before investing my mUnAy.

I am mildly interested in the new Wolfenstein game. I hope this Doom game they're making doesn't turn out to be some sort of MMO reboot (that would explain the lack of the number 4 or any subtitles, too), but eh. I know Bethesda has done bad things to id Software thus far, but maybe they'll give extra care to id's most valued franchises.

Im being lead to believe that without a 4 and just straight "DooM", We'll be getting DooM3 2.0.(or 1.5 depending what they do with it) and be a straight remake this time. But I swear if I dont get my fukin metal, gore, hell maps, insane action, badass monsters(not the D3 crap),powerful weaponry, and a real bf mother fukin g-9000 id software can officially die out and never touch its series again. But thats how i feel.

RE: Finally DOOM 4 is confirmed \o/
The problem is: Doom was popular because it was technically really groundbreaking, PLUS it was well-made.
Now, we're at the point... Nothing can really surprise us. We can have movie quality CGI animation rendered in real time. With our monitors we can't achieve much more (maybe that's why Carmack went to make VR glasses).
Now, what do Doom fans like? What's the reason someone would dream of Doom 4 and not some other game with also awesome graphics?
They should invest in gameplay and design. Make it simple (but not easy) fast FPS, remembering about Doom content people love and remember: mindfucking grotesque technicolor monsters, corridors made of flesh, creepily abandoned places that feel wrong, but not in standard horror game "a skeleton popped out"way, but in a "places you know but fucked up like in satanic nightmare" way... And music.
Yeah, they won't though, it's safer to make another "space marines in darkness", enough people will buy it, welp. It's up to young people in indie companies to try dangerously new things now :)

I fail to understand how this is good news. You have Betheseda or however you spell it governing id and Doom 4 has gone through a lot of development hell, which rarely yields anything good. It should've stayed dead and not tarnish Doom's name.

RE: Finally DOOM 4 is confirmed \o/
This is how the new Doom shouldn't be done:
These efforts are amateurish, half-done, only focus on specific details, and ultimately fail to capture what make the original product so successful.
At least with Doom 3, you actually had some atmosphere going for it, but at the same time, more character development and more level varieties would have been great, plus, it felt like a proper Doom game, especially in the later levels.
What should happen with Doom 4:
-It shouldn't have to be as graphically impressive as BF4, and I pretty much expect it on the same fidelity as The New Order, and that game in itself looks gorgeous
-One thing that struck a chord with people in Doom was the realistic portrayal of graphic violence, which was something only Mortal Kombat had done at the time. Nowadays, everyone is accustomed to graphic violence, but with versions either more cartoony and over-the-top or minimalist in such a depiction. If Doom is going to strike a chord again, it will have to go in a direction that would depict a realistic kind of violence that hasn't been done before. When a head explodes, we need to see teeth, shards of bone, blood, brain matter, and spinal fluid. When we see gunshot wounds, we need to see bullets shredding flesh and bone. When we see demons killed by plasma, we need to see the plasma blackening the flesh and frying the target inside out. When we see bodies suffering from the secondary blast of a BFG round, we need to see the skin completely gone as the corpses turn into nothing more than melted flesh and boiling blood. Essentially, we need to see a less cartoony and more subdued Brutal Doom.
-In terms of story, people were fine with the original Doom's excuse plot. Nowadays, people expect all video games to be interactive movies, complete with melodrama and romance. Doom shouldn't be overly dramatic and pompous (Beyond: Two Souls), nor should it include racist (CoD: Ghosts) or sexist (BF4) connotations. Doom can be dramatic, but it can be darkly funny too, and even a few one-liners are acceptable. Plus, what would make the new Doom unique is a type of storytelling that doesn't require cutscenes after cutscenes of monologues, but to allow the player look for the story, rather than have the game spoon-feed the story to the player, all while keeping that "demons have invaded Earth" theme.
-Concerning levels, I'm not too concerned about level design as long as it allows exploration, and as long as there's variety, including futuristic tech bases, ruined mega-cities, lunar colonies, and hellish wastelands
-On the note of keeping with the monsters and weapons, all the originals with more appropriate designs are definitely encouraged, and new content always keeps the experience fresh
-Another thing that struck a chord with people were the mature themes and horrifying imagery (walls covered in human mutilation and Satanic imagery*). Although Call of Duty did do controversial things in its Modern Warfare series, the only part that was really expanded upon was the "No Russian" mission, and even that faded into obscurity. Why? That level of controversy wasn't as deep as with Doom. Doom should also expand on controversial topics, such as government corruption children dying, and humanity's perception of reality being twisted into a sort of "unreality" by the demonic forces. If Doom is going to be as financially successful as Skyrim, it needs to be made controversial again. Doom is a 20 year old series, and memes alone aren't going to bolster its chances of success
-On terms of soundtrack, I don't want a completely generic orchestra score, nor do I want heavy metal blaring every second of the game. One of the things the Doom movie did right was the soundtrack, as there was undeniably an orchestra, but at the same time, was nicely blended with electronic music and heavy metal. On the other hand, Aubrey Hodges's take on the Doom soundtrack did a perfect job of giving Doom a sense of foreboding and ire, to the point that it was downright scary. If the soundtrack composer decides to go the Dredd route and make the soundtrack completely electronic with crunchy guitars, heavy bass, and eighties synth, that's even better. If the soundtrack included both the ambient bits and the heavy soundtrack, then the soundtrack would be golden.
-The depiction of Hell was something that Doom 64 did perfectly. The original felt too stereotypical and cartoony, whereas Doom 3 was too noisy and too red, as well as adding that fire and brimstone hell that everyone's seen. Doom 64, however, did an excellent job of depicting Hell as an eldritch location that is alive and pulsating with unearthly suffering and hatred.
Just my two cents.

They can't fuck up. some of these people who are making Doom 4 played these games at school, at work, and in their own homes. I can see how Duke Nukem: Forever was fucked up because they just wanted to put it out there hoping the hype would just carry it to high profit. I doubt they'll make the same mistake twice....I hope...

It's a nice thought, the programmers may have but those people's bosses may not have and might think "kids today like COD/Fallout/Borderlands/Battlefield, it makes a billion dollars, to make money on our multi million dollar game we should do that too."MrSetharoo wrote: They can't fuck up. some of these people who are making Doom 4 played these games at school, at work, and in their own homes.
It's true that if they wanted to make another DooM game that really played like Doom 1 / 2, there's lots of examples (Serious Sam, ROTT, most 90s shooters, fan wads).
However, to make another high budget Doom game that is new in a way that no amount of high res mods or fan made content could compete with while still being familiar enough to fit into the existing games and as revolutionary and controversial as the original Doom in gameplay and aesthetics takes some real thought and cooperation and understanding of the long term goal from every department (programming, art, management, sounds, music).
i.e., the artists can't be afraid to draw stuff as weird as Adrian did, musicians can't be afraid to deviate from classical soundtracks and do something like Doom/Doom 64's soundtrack, programmers should possibly be able to go quantity over quality on AI design and texture resolution if necessary for frame rate, etc. (they don't HAVE to make it as fast as Doom 1/2, but they could)
Most importantly, the management can't be afraid of deviating from what has sold in the recent past.
Considering that Doom's been in development hell for such a long time unfortunately I doubt that's going to happen, even though I really hope it does because that would be awesome; if it doesn't happen for this game I really hope it happens for Doom 5.

the max health. because being able to fully recover from doing nothing
for a short bit is just idiotic, and not even remotely realistic.
RE: Finally DOOM 4 is confirmed \o/
Now this is OT, but I loved how the health regeneration makes sense in Crysis. You've a bloody nanosuite which heals your tissues with nanoparticles or whatever it is. That's a game that, even though was too short in its first episode and became too dramatic in its sequel(s) (haven't played Crysis 3 yet), implemented HP regenration in a realistic way, so that having your health regenerating didn't make you some sort of fancy guy who could inexplicably regenerate her/his wounds but gave you a valid explanation of why that happens.
That said, I'm a Crysis' detractor.

Or have a classic mode like in Goldeneye007 where you had CoD regenration in the normal difficulties and the "Classic 007" difficulty where you're placed in the 007 difficulty(the hardest) and you have the classic no regen health system from the orignal.
