Binding PS3 controls?
Binding PS3 controls?
I like using a controller while playing a game, but when I connect my controller the controls are all screwed up so I have to do x axis this and y axis that, which is VERY annoying.
Any way I can bind the controls myself?

RE: Binding PS3 controls?
Which controls scheme do you have it set on?
Set it to PS2 (POV, Joysticks) if you haven't already. It'll also make L2 and R2 be read as buttons instead of analog.

If you're asking to bind analog stick directions as buttons to certain actions for some odd reason, then use the Playstation 1 profile where I think it'll read analog controls as POV (D-Pad).
EDIT: Found a WAY better frontend for this.

Seriously, to hell with MotionInJoy's standard interface, this wrecks it.

How do I bind the controls though?
The keyboard bindings look nothing like this screenshot

I have no idea what Button 1, Button 2, etc are.

RE: Binding PS3 controls?
Nononono, you see the options there? DirectInput, XInput, Keyboard Mapping, etc? That Keyboard/Mouse mapping is like Joy2key, where it lets your computer emulate a mouse and keyboard's input. You want DirectInput or XInput. DirectInput is a generic controller protocol and will be detected by games as a "generic controller". XInput emulates an Xbox 360 controller, for games that natively support those controllers. PCSX2 is for the PS2 emulator with the same name.

[/spoiler]
Binding is done through dropdown menus on each button. Don't be lazy. Or be lazy, and select XInput and just press the Auto Fill button and save. Just know that if you do this, R2 and L2 won't be able to be read as buttons in XInput mode, they'll be read as an Xbox 360's triggers. If you want to use them as buttons, you'll need to manually set up your controls through DirectInput.

Spoiler: Setting it up is easy as long as you aren't lazy. Press the Control Panel button to see what the buttons are. Here I'm pressing the Circle button. (Open)

I dumped that in favor of the Scarlet.Crush Productions DS3 driver. No screwing around with tools, it just runs on boot and emulates an Xbox 360 controller. Since Xbox 360 controllers work with both DirectInput and Xinput it should be fine unless you want to mess with the pressure-sensitive face buttons or Sixaxis.

... Which is exactly what I like to use in PC games. :pBalrog wrote: it should be fine unless you want to mess with the pressure-sensitive face buttons or Sixaxis.
Like for Zandro, I use the right analog stick for coarse aiming, and the SixAxis for fine aiming. Works really well.
I also like to use the SixAxis for 6DoF games such as Descent or Forsaken. It's really dizzying but it feels so natural.

RE: Binding PS3 controls?
Wait, so while it emulates an Xbox 360 controller, I can use L2 and R2 as buttons instead of analog? Because when I had an X360fWindows controller, that was a problem I ran into. I couldn't bind things like "shoot" to R2 because it's detect it as analog instead of a button.Balrog wrote: >motioninjoy
