I seem to remember there being resistance to Gothic MAP01 because it only had one SSG.

It's been a while, though, so i can't remember who specifically didn't like it...for all I know it might have been just one or two people on one of the teamspeak servers who plays League instead of Doom now anyway.

Then again, the removed 32-in-24 map had only one SSG, and that was it's major flaw. I think arguing about the number of SSG's in a map is pretty subjective, and almost entirely depends on the map. If there is a way to determine whether or not Gothic MAP01 would be more like Pobla or more like the 32-in-24 map, then it should be implemented. Possibly force (and I use the term loosely) frequent duelers to play on Gothic MAP01 and get a general consensus. Then again, if that were easily possible, we should be doing that for EVERY map.

Point being, I still think the Gothic map in Duel32 now is not very enjoyable, and I (as well as a few other people) would prefer it being replaced. Whether or not we want it replaced with Gothic MAP01 depends on, frankly, whether or not we like the map. So before this breaks down into "I like this, therefore you should put this there," and "I DON'T like this, therefore get rid of it," I can remember a few maps that are held in higher regard and can replace whatever map is in there now.

One of those being Exposed.

In order to prevent the ZDC from using an old version of DUEL32, I will likely be releasing a DUEL32c that replaces BRIT10 MAP02 with BRIT11 MAP02. It'll also fix the missing textures in Lazarus MAP01.

Should be out by the end of the week.

What's more, I have a new bunch of stats for you. Ever since DUEL32a, the compilation has had a piece of code that logged if a map was picked or randomed, and I now give you map statistics since DUEL32a that is broken down between the two:

Note that due to a bug in DUEL32a, BRIT11 MAP01 was incorrectly labeled as MAP02. It was fixed in DUEL32b

Yes. I wrote a little script to parse all of the map switches and other tokens I put in the console.

Tell me. I've got a couple in mind actually, but more suggestions are always good.

Also, with so much headroom now, I would love to feature more community member maps, so long as they are doom/boom map format and play well with weapon switch, weapon stay and no item respawns.

Please look through the exec and onsl3_ wads, some of them have very good non-bfg maps. Also are you ok with user submitted maps?

Can you also PLEASE turn off forced weapon switch? Majority of the players do -NOT- want that on when they're playing.

We have plenty of headroom now, so yes. The only thing I ask is that the maps be in Doom/Boom format and not break in non-modern-ZDoom ports (use prBoom+ or Odamex for compatibility testing).

I am still accepting map suggestions. These are the maps that I have penciled in for the next version.
  • CCarnage MAP03 - Digging deep in the crates, this was played a whole bunch in the DWANGO era. No BFG either! Let's see how it works in 2013.
  • Chill3 MAP04 - Rustking is using this in an upcoming NADA tournament.
  • Chill3 MAP07 - Just checking to see if you knuckleheads were paying attention. Here's the real suggestion.
  • Chill3 MAP09 - A no-BFG single-SSG map that played pretty well in some tournament I can't remember the name of.
  • Class219 MAP01 - No plasma, no BFG, no ammo, no health, no nothing. Just a neat layout.
  • Duel_kuchi - An outside suggestion, an update to a 32in24 map (no, not THAT one...or THAT one either).
  • Elv_F - Has seen some duel action in the past.
    Note that the use of this map is - like exodus - an exception to the rule of only doom/boom format maps. It's been around forever, and nothing in the map is terribly reliant on hexen features.
  • EonDM1E MAP05 - A out-of-left-field suggestion that actually turned out to be decent.
  • EonDM1E MAP13 - Another map from the out-of-left-field suggestion.
  • Exec MAP01 - A fast BFG spamming map that has seen duel play in the past.
  • Exec MAP03 - Has seen play in Rustking's mini-tournament, several good players have vouched for it as well.
  • Exposed - A returning favorite
  • Eyedea - Because it's mine. :)
    No for real, it's being used in an upcoming NADA and people who have played on it so far have given it high marks. Nothing is sacred, if it turns out to be broken or bad under extended scrutiny, I don't mind removing it (see: UDM3 MAP09).
  • Greenwar MAP16 - A returning favorite.
  • Greenwar MAP28 - A no-BFG map, was used in the EDL.
  • Staph1 MAP04 - It's being used in an upcoming NADA, plus Dr. Sean is a kickass dude.
  • StyxDM01 MAP02 - Fun layout, and people liked MAP01 already.
  • Tedp MAP01 - It's being used in an upcoming NADA.
This list is not exhaustive and I might add or remove maps as I fancy.

I am also very keen on using recent community maps and giving them a chance to shine. I have in-progress maps by one_Two and Strych6, and one by X-Ray that I'm looking at.

Ok I'll give some feedback on these maps so far.

CCarnage MAP03 - Please don't add this excuse of a no bfg map, it's just a rectangle with supershotguns in it; I'd rather play D5M7 instead of this.

Chill Map02 - No god, please no; We're playing on Doom2.wad for a reason this map needs to place the ssg in a less retarded area, if you like duelers you won't add this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBPqksG9nbA

Chill Map07 - MEHHHHHHHH I think you can pick a better map, tbh naut maps aren't really that great. (Don't hang me)

Chill Map09 - Same as above, it's 32in24 map26 all over again.

Class219 MAP01 - Now this is a real no-bfg map. Very good map, definitely something will catch on after a while.

Elv_F - Eh people had mixed opinions on this one.

EonDM Map05 - Very good map, nice pick!

Exec Map01 - Ah yes, this map. I think it's fine.

Exec Map03 - A nice small map with plenty of BFG and SSG action, I think this map will do very well, only problem might be the bfg being so close to the plasma but lets see how it goes.

Exposed - kk

Eyedea - Nice map

Greenwar Map16 - I dunno about favorite, but definitely better than those chill.wad maps.

Greenwar Map28 - Another rectangle with SSG's but I think this one is way better than carnage map03 because of its' emphasis on cover, and that tele could have some really cool tricks with it. Overall I like it.

Staph Map04 - Neat layout, I like the way you gotta get the bfg. Definitely a big step above any of those chill maps, I think it's good.

Tedp Map01 - Looks good, nice pick for nada.

CCarnage MAP03 - this is a dumb map that is worse than d5m7 with its random powerup spam. its just a square with guns

Chill Map02 - was fun in tdm but i dont know about duel, the guy with the 1 ssg might end up dominating the map too much

Chill Map07 - meh, feels more like a dm map than duel, like the old udm maps that were removed

Chill Map09 - might be interesting, but the 1 ssg that can easily control the whole map worries me. you can also walk behind the instalift and it might be confusing

Class219 MAP01 - was fun in duel, worth a try

Duel_kuchi - the bfg might be too dominating here, seems like a mediocore map. not much more i can say

Elv_F - played this in duel, was hard to move around in and the bfg seems unfitting. i think foxtrot is better than this, and exodus does the bfg spam better

EonDM Map05 - looks like it could be a good pick; not a bad layout

EonDM Map13 - i like this one more than 05, definately worth a try

Exec Map01 - seems like a cool intense fragging map. im interested to see how 08 would play in duel too

Exec Map03 - might be worth a try

Exposed - yes add her back in

Eyedea - alex's map that is good, add this

Greenwar Map16 - some ssg maze map, was kinda ok in the old versions. not the most interesting map to play on though. if more people want it back, you should add it i guess

Greenwar Map28 - id rather just play the other greenwar maps. it has the simple feel to it, but not as much strategy as 20 and 24. hidden plasma in the pillar too, might make the map really spammy

Staph Map04 - pretty big for a duel map, might get stale from completion time. plus it has that dm feel instead of duel like chill07

Tedp Map01 - cool map with good cover from the bfg, as well as pressure if you get it. id say add it
