If you can remind me tonight when I'm on that'd be good. Dumb course(s) ruining my free time/memory

I'm definitely looking forward to this, for plenty of reasons.

I think having this system would be too much of a hassle..instead, just do it like hamachi , sure the stats may get deleted, but you'll have backups, right? not sure if it's possible with zandronum though.

Anyways, anyone heard about coop or die? it's a coop mode for quake 2 which uses a user account system to save the progress of a pending co-op game and you just need to login to start from where you left. It uses a system called "World Server"
The COOP or DIE Quake2 Modification uses a WorldServer. It manages on-line players' accounts, stores inventory and health points, and acts as an integrated master server. It also controls the entities that are spawned in the maps. It can add, remove or modify monsters, items and much more, don't expect to encounter the same monster each time in the same place. When a player dies, the whole team returns to the start map and must try the mission again, so there is no other way: "Cooperate or perish".

...or you can do what zdaemon did.

Has work actually been started on this or is this so far a teasing thread for how the world would be cool if this project saw the light of day? Pardon my curiosity but there has been a lot of "teasing threads" for projects or events that ended just in that stage. Won't believe until I see it. From what I can see in the ticket the account system is still in the stage of initial discussions about the concept basics and implementation and no single line of code was written (?)

I've done stuff independantly of the account system through Java/wbuild. That is probably 80-90% complete. Though I'm seeing if I can push through a global thing first on the tracker rather than finish up something that may get out-dated anyways.

I'm extremely interested in the possibilities this could open up for an automated persistent world in certain servers.

Shiiiiiiiiit, I didn't even think of this.

Oh God, someone could make a Doom MMO.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

Ooooor make it so that your money, guns, and items get saved between online sessions in Mercenaries Doom. This is what makes me a strong supporter of an account system that modders like myself can make use of. I have a lot of ideas that I'd like to experiment with, but I'll probably wait a while until all of the wrinkles get ironed out of the account system itself first.
Reinforcements: midgame Survival joining/respawning
Doom64: Unabsolved: Doom64 + Diablo II
ZandroSkins: a pack made by our community
AeniPuffs: 3D blood and bullet puff effects, free to use for your own mods
Squad Radio: a WASD-based radio chat menu, add your own custom sounds!
Mercenaries (on hold)

- Cost for a reliable good non-laggy server (requires dedicated since almost all VPS's are bad, which is >90$ USD usually)

- Communication (code-wise) with the main server (BE) that is hosting it would be extra work to ensure synchronization between both

Top point is limiting me the most.

Maybe Konar would be able to help but I do not want to name-drop him or make it seem like I expect any more of him than what he does for the community at the moment.
I don't know shits about servers (and basically none of the above mentioned) but I would totally love to contribute. If it is a matter of a puny amount of 90 USD, then count me in as an investor. What can I do? What would my contribution entail? Buying a server?

With my new ideas for an account system, no one would need to worry about hosting anything: http://zandronum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2117

Well, if you made the system open source, it could be simply used on existing servers. + it would have an additional bonus of your good feel of sharing your code that derives from an open source project thanks to Torr Samaho's effort and without which this wouldn't be possible. Feel of doing it in good faith for the whole community. I see you released the source for wbuild 1.3 so maybe you'll consider it here too before the rumors with secret underground features appear again, heh.
