Nah, I'd say part of being mature is personal restraint. Being mature is pretty much just being socially acceptable on a large scale.

Very hypocritical, like I stated originally. Potheads go around posting the shit I said earlier just like furries go around posting previous examples in this thread, it's the same thing. You don't have to tell everyone and their mother that you like pot, it's OK.
Also I'm pretty sure humans have had "furries" since the dawn of time, seeing as the earliest paintings depict humans dressing up in outfits shaped like animals and drawings of animals. >lolegypt

Because some people don't understand the word "ignore" or simply don't use it, eh well, I suppose I shouldn't say that but... don't you people think that what was already said in this thread is enough? Why keeping the conversation? If you don't like it, the don't talk about it, simply IGNORE IT. Mainly because all your whoring about stuff you won't be ever able to change anyway does not lead anywhere. Eh, then again, I know this post is not going to stop you anyway, but whatever, know my opinion about this thread as it useless and this crap is now being here for ages. Just deal with it and hope it might fade away soon. Also, before you will say anything, I hate most of Bronies and Furries, but then again you can find some cool ones in the whole pit of shit and whatnot, and occasionally you can understand them enough to stop caring about what they do, or even start liking it (of course I'm not speaking about some kind of pronz and... you know what I mean, that stuff is just retarded, but no one told you to click the damn link.)

I think we've reached a consensus on how people feel about these issues.
Everything that can be said has been said so far in this thread, so I am closing it. If anyone wants to talk about other issues they are free to open a new thread, but otherwise this one has pretty much gotten repetitive.

For reference, I have compiled my responses to this thread:
Spoiler: First response (Open)
infurnus wrote: I agree that elitism and self-entitlement are prevalent problems on the internet.

Just going to repost this here:
  • people have a right to have opinions, and to be offended by whatever irks them, just like how people have a right to feel any other emotion
  • being offended does not make you special; it does not give you special powers, it does not allow you to be protected from second hand insults and inflamed sensitivities
  • no one has the right to not be offended; people can't claim they have a right to not be offended when freedom of speech is prevalent
  • nobody will ever be granted special rights simply because they are offended
  • people shouldn't purposely try to offend others
  • no one should make a mountain out of a molehill, etc
I'm just glad that people are actually articulating why they have a problem with some of these issues, or at least quoting someone expressing what they have issues with, as opposed to the lazy posts in the other "brony" thread that basically equate to saying "I just don't like this" over and over in various ways.
If people like or don't like something, that's cool.
It's also cool if people can express their like or dislike of something in a more civil (or at least a frustrated but non-inflammatory) manner.

I think I'll link this relevant YouTube clip:

Very decent analogies.

The difference is that those things are far more... normal (or at least socially acceptable), so people generally don't give a shit. That and there are not thousands upon thousands of porn pics of them.
I am definitely not going to post proof here, but there is a lot of erotic fanart of all of those games floating around. Yes. Even Doom.

Sorry to spoil the internet and/or your childhood/sanity for you, but it just had to be said.

infurnus wrote: Hopefully I don't bring this off topic, but I would suggest putting large quotes in spoiler tags.

Also, though the discourse is reasonable so far, I want to stress that some points were addressed earlier (some of which in my posts on the first page), so basically I advise avoiding circular back-and-fourth arguments.

To contribute, while I am thankful that everyone here is trying to be reasonably civil, I think the "bigger issue" also stands. It's not just two or three subsets or subcultures that trigger or create negative responses in others, but a larger and more general set of problems that have been overlooked due to the pure shock factor of the greater "labeled" communities/cultures like "bronies' or "furries" et al.

EDIT: vvvvvv If it's any consolation, "anypony" is basically just a part of the fictional grammar from within the show's universe, and big/obsessed fans are simply using that as sort of an in-joke or code to see who is also a fan. It's like a secret handshake, but due to the nature of the internet it's not really secret.
Decay wrote: What probably staggers people most is the fact it's for a target audience of little girls, and young adult men are indulging in it. There is something wrong here.

Making a comparison about plastering Doom vs MLP is different. Doom players don't go around saying "everymarine, somemarine, marines everywhere" in the same manner that bronies say "somepony" etc.

It is also bizarre to the extreme you have a delusion of brotherhood via MLP. Friendship is indeed magic. Neither are real and both are twisted desires of youth.

The point that other things are shoved in our face undesired (such as Aenima's constant references to weed [nobody cares]) is a valid one. However, MLP is slightly more offensive to some because of the way the userbase has come to create symbolism for it. Combined with going against hegemonic masculinity, such a connection was doomed from the start to be criticized. Arguably, people come here to play Doom, a violent game rated for people aged 17+. As a result, a good lot of the players here are older and predominately male. We don't necessarily want to be subjected to the content of a show for 5 year old girls.
