Doom 3 BFG edition
RE: Doom 3 BFG edition
Well I got my copy on PC a while ago I haven't really played it too much but what I have played is good. The v-sync doesn't seem to work (anyone else had this problem?) so I had to sort out tearing, the multiplayer is pretty good and I don't believe there are the aiming problems as seen on the consoles. Also the graphics don't look massively updated, but I would recommend it.

its a good game
if only the doom 3 part had co-op

RE: Doom 3 BFG edition
BFG Edition is just terrible for the PC. I would suggest just sticking to the normal D3 + ROE until they patch all the issues up. The new maps just copy paste from the normal games too much anyways.

What issues are you getting? I seem to have fixed all mine and have a very playable game.Faerlyn wrote: BFG Edition is just terrible for the PC. RE: Doom 3 BFG edition
There is a few minor bugs that are annoying, such as blood decals not showing after loading a game, bullet puffs not showing after using the artifact in ROE. They said there would be an option for the old flashlight and there isn't, the flash light and dynamic lights (from imp balls for example) don't cast shadows like the original. The current lack of Coop is also disappointing seeing as the original xbox had coop and there is two coop mods for the pc. Also the current lack of mod support is a giant turn off. To me the original copies have so much over BFG right now that it just ends up being a waste of money.

RE: Doom 3 BFG edition
Unfortunately, what Aerial says is true, the BFG Edition is infinitely worse than the original version, the graphics were downgraded (neither flashlight nor fireballs cast shadows anymore), the "new lighting" is easily achievable with a console command in the classic version, the new levels are mostly just a copy-paste job (and the boss is just a lame re-texture of The Guardian, minus the seekers), there no classic flashlight option, the advanced graphics options are gone, reduced FOV (you have to change it using the console, and it's not available unless you add a line in the game's shortcut), and there is no mod support!!!
There are some minimal positive things though, like the new widescreen HUD (there are mods to fix that in the classic version, but they are not as good), motion blur (achievable with sikkmod), the Oculus Rift support is nice too, I guess, if you can pay for the hardware, and the game runs really smooth thanks to the code they added from Rage, but it also also inherits that pesky screen tearing problem from that game (that is still present even if you turn VSync on, you have to force it from your video-card control panel.)
In summary, you're better off with the original version, specially because of sikkmod and the co-op mods. You can save your money and spend it in a true horror game instead.

RE: Doom 3 BFG edition
I agree completely. My Doom 3 looks great WITHOUT Sikkmod. Maybe if BFG Edition was moddable, had coop support, and they fixed all the bugs it would be worth it (give us zoom back too!). There is a reason I uninstalled BFG Edition after about 10 minutes of playing it....Totengott wrote:Stuff...
This is how my Doom 3 looks WITHOUT Sikkmod... I can use POM with this also but it creates too many graphical oddities, this also works with Coop mods.
[spoiler]

Until BFG Edition allows me to do this and gives me coop its staying uninstalled. I recommend everyone to buy Doom 3 + ROE instead of BFG.

Not really, if my memory doesn't fail me, Ultimate Doom was released as a free upgrade to the people who already owned the game. Also, the extra episode wasn't a copy/paste job, and they didn't took away features.

I'm surprised no one mentioned yet that the doom2.wad that ships with BFG edition is incompatible with doom2.wad that everyone else has. We're inb4 people yelling for help because MAP02, MAP31 and MAP32 will give them level authentication errors. Apart from the changes in levels some graphics were also censored - no more nazis, Hitlers and swastikas in secret maps and medikits do not have the red cross symbol anymore.
No Rest for the Living is okay, but way too short. At least maps from E4 of Ultimate Doom were hard.

Did not know that about the .wad. People will think they can play on doom ports but... how annoying :/Zalewa wrote: I'm surprised no one mentioned yet that the doom2.wad that ships with BFG edition is incompatible with doom2.wad that everyone else has.
