Making Zandronum Detect A User's .Wads

#1

Post by The Vengeful Many » Sun Oct 07, 2012 12:32 am

Instead of bothering you all with a story of why I love DOOM, and why I play Zandronum, etc., I'll get straight to my issue.

Whenever I fire up Zandronum, it only lets me select the 4 .wads I had when I first used it.

DOOM 1, DOOM 2, The Plutonia Experiment, and TNT.

I've tried adding several other .wads I want to play, such as DOOMMetal and Claustrophobia 1024, but it just doesn't even acknowledge them.

If I try starting up Zandronum by double clicking the .wads themselves, it just gives me the menu to start up any of the 4 aforementioned .wads it has no issues with.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I haven't found any answers on the forum or in any searches.
Thanks for any information ahead of time.

It is indeed an obvious question. However, don't fret, you're not a "noob" for not knowing. ;p

There are several methods that you can use to load wads for offline singleplayer use.

1.) If you're using Windows, you can click and drag the .wad or .pk3 file ontop of Zandronum.exe and it will run it. You can even select multiple wads via CTRL+clicking them, just remember that the order in which you select them is the order that zandronum will load them in (which is important if you need to load skulltag_data or skulltag_actors).

2.) If you're using MS-DOS or Unix/Linux's terminal like us old-schoolers, you should type the command "zandronum.exe -file ______". You can also load multiple wads by listing them continuously after "-file". Just remember to put spaces between them (you don't need commas). I use this method because you can also specify certain parameters such as "-warp 12" (to skip to map12), "-skill 3", or "-nomonsters". Plus, if you want to rerun the same setup quickly, all you have to do is press the up arrow and enter (which reenters the same command line). This is useful for mappers and mod-makers.

3.) Go to Doomseeker/IDE and go to "Create Server". Set up everything and then click "Play Offline" instead of "Launch Server".

4.) Use ZDL.

Hope this helps! By the way, welcome to the Zandro forums.

No dice. Same menu comes up.

I'm running Windows XP, and I have a seperate folder for .PK3's and .Wads from my Zandonum folder. Should I merge them somehow?

You're doing it right. The list allows you to select the IWAD\commercial WAD that fan-made WADS need to run. If you're double-clicking a wad that is based on Doom 2, select Doom 2 from that list and run the program normally.

If ZDL is compatible with Zandronum, I'd suggest using that instead of click-dragging.

Oh, I guess I was! I was wondering what it meant by "IWAD".

Thanks for the assistance, AEnima and Marcaek! :D

Another way to set up user made WADS is to set it all up like a server in Doomseeker, but click "Play Offline" instead. It will load any wads you have selected, but you still have to select the IWAD.
