Actually being around would probably help with that... :P

Latest Freedoom has dehacked that gets in the way of authentication.

If the client loads dehacked and the server doesn't, the obvious result is desyncs.

What are you saying? Oh you're unskilled, you never play doom so stay away from zandronum. I didn't know we were an elitist port. And this doomsday talk about all those new players being trolls and annoying bastards is just too silly.
Not giving this a chance would be the real unwise thing to do.

Everyone has to start somewhere.
I admit I worded that really badly. By the latter I meant trolls/griefers/hackers, that sort of thing. I also was putting more emphasis on respectful. I probably shouldn't have put the part next to it in.

Well, if players start causing problems then they'll be dealt with- I don't see a problem there.

Because you used to be able to make exploits by putting DEHACKED wads in your Skins folder. You could give every PLAY* frame "BRIGHT", for example. This would make opponents easier to spot.
Reinforcements: midgame Survival joining/respawning
Doom64: Unabsolved: Doom64 + Diablo II
ZandroSkins: a pack made by our community
AeniPuffs: 3D blood and bullet puff effects, free to use for your own mods
Squad Radio: a WASD-based radio chat menu, add your own custom sounds!

I mean ignored on the client side, derp.

I definitely want to release 1.0 as soon as possible. The binaries are ready (I just need to adjust the version string), but we still need to solve some issues with the packaging / installer.
Dusk wrote: Latest Freedoom has dehacked that gets in the way of authentication.
Then we'd need to make a Freedoom version without dehacked, their license should allow this. But what do they use dehacked for? They don't want to change Doom's game mechanics, do they?
Llewellyn wrote: I mean ignored on the client side, derp.
That's technically difficult and ambiguous. The client loads all lumps of all wads on start up. It would have to know in advance that it will join a server that doesn't have these lumps. And then single player would behave differently depending on whether you joined a server before you start single player or not.

I think the community is very specific; most people play Doom from many, many years and are really good at it, also the big percentage of players is modders... But, is getting out of shadow so bad? Like, if you make mods, wouldn't you be happy many people enjoy them? Also, about this obnoxious noobs flood, I play on normal servers a lot and I haven't noticed anything like that. (I don't play megamans because the graphics literally are giving me headaches, lol).
Besides, Megaman fans are also nostalgia victims, if they played Megaman I really doubt they'd be too derp to use arrows in menu.
Shared keys will now be in Zandro! Thanks devs for their work, and users for the support!

I extended the authentication mechanism to allow Freedoom 0.8-beta1/Doom clients to join Doom/Freedoom 0.8-beta1 servers. Since Freedoom's DEHACKED lump just changes some strings, this shouldn't cause any desyncs.
