Spoiler: read this before posting (Open)
The mod have been given to me by Bleson, this is not a theft or a try to gain popularity.
I have taken over the mod because Bleson do not have the time to work on it right now, and he can have it back at any time he wish.

Old Thread: http://zandronum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1931

I intend to continue what he started, everything he promised in that thread will be followed.

Woohooo :D can't wait to see it finished for multiplayer servers. You could maybe have a test server for us?

It makes me happy to see you care.
I have had been inactive for a short while, doing other stuff, and tomorrow I will start on a new school, so the development might be a little bit staggered, but I will eventually get there.

Some few things that I expect to have ready for the next update:
New animal: Bear, it looks adorable so far (Credits to DoomJedi for ripping the sprites from Daggerfall)
New map: Swamplands. It is what it says, it is a watery terrain with a lot of little islands that sticks up over the water surface. No new animals are going to be added specially for this terrain yet.

If there is anything else you want to ask for in the next update, then let me know.

Hello once again, it have been a while, but here is an update:

Version r2

NOTE: I did not get the development from Bleson, so don't expect the same as you would expect from an update from Bleson.
Spoiler: changelog (Open)
Additions:
- Bear have been added. Credits to DoomJedi for ripping sprites from daggerfall.
- Hunter playerclass, he still look the same for now.

Changes:
Actors:
- Player is much slower now, he moves in a more realistic pase.
- Player now spawn with 8 more shells.
- The bearkiller now got it's own damagetype.
- Animals respawn, making you able to play forever if you want to.
Map:
- Map is now Hunt01 instead of Map01.
- I did some cleaning up on the map, so no more zombies.
- Deer and bear are placed on the map.

Notes:
- I did not have any death animation for the bear, learn to love it as it is.
- I did not balance the bear, and beware, it's a very dangerous bear.
- I haven't cleaned up all the things that are a bit messy.
- there is most likely something to note I have forgotten, so stay sharp when playing and let me know if I forgot something.
I hope you will all have a good time.

Awesome! Is this playable in multiplayer at all yet, or do you have any ETA for this?

What does ETA mean? I'm sorry, but I don't get too much around on the internet.
I do not know about multiplayer, it should work, and you can stack as many dead animals up as you please, even though there currently is no real reason to do it.

Anyone who look at this thread and have actually played a hunting game, please tell just what you do with the animals you shoot, as I just realised I got no clue :\

ETA means Estimated Time of Arrival/Achievement.

Ok as for what you do with the shot animals in other hunting games: The way this is done in "serious" hunting games is that you have a so-called bag limit. For example, you are allowed to shoot three bucks of any species. Even more serious games tell you what species you can shoot, i.e. you can ONLY 3 whitetail deer, or ONLY 2 bears, etc. - shooting something else, or shooting restricted stuff like fawns, means it's game over and the whole progress is lost.

The challenge with these games is that unless you're a perfect shot, the animal won't die right away - it'll run for a bit before falling over dead. In these games you usually have to follow the wounded animal and then "bag" the dead body for the shot to count. If you stop the hunt without having found the body, you get point deductions or even forfeit the entire hunt.

So perfect hunters get one-shot kills and can just walk over to the animal and bag it, but most of the time you have to follow blood splatters and other hints to get to the body. I dunno how this could be represented in doom properly though.

Once thing I do like about games like Deer Hunter 2005 though: If you do a perfect shot that results in a clean, immediate kill, you are rewarded with a bullet cam. It's a small thing but adds rewarding experiences to the hunt.

I got no such thing as ETA, I just do stuff when I got the energy.

I think I can find a way to do something similar to hunting specific animals, I think I can do that very nicely actually.

I can make the animals run off if it isn't a onehit kill.

I do not know how I can place blood splatter from the animals and other hints, I will have to be a bit innovative on that.

I think I can give some different bonuses if you do a perfect kill, maybe make you able to choose which you want.

Sounds awesome!

Thing you should keep in mind is player gratification. What does a player get for doing a clean shot. Obviously this is not a big issue with shotguns, but even there a slowmo-killcam could be a cool incentive. It's a huge thing with sniper rifles - but frankly I dunno how this could be done in a good way in Doom.

It would be really cool if there was a need for people in multiplayer to collaborate, i.e. several guys need to drive the game towards the other players.

Also, no rush. I'm just happy to see such a far-out game idea reinvigorated in doom ;)

(Also for the record, I'm not a hunter myself. I did like playing deer hunter 2005 but that's about it)

I do not feel rushed by your posts, I just find them very informative actually :)

I do not think that it is possible with slow motion, as it would have to slow down whole server, or else you will have to use a slow motion radius something I do not know how to make if it is possible at all.

I know it is important not to give retarded bonuses for a clean kill, I do not intend it to be like a nuke or timefreeze, more like small bonuses like a little ammo or something at similar size.

Thank you for your interest.

You don't have a death sprite for the bear? I have the sprite from Daggerfall if you need it. I also picked up Deer hunter so I might be able to rip some sprites.

You won't be able to rip the sprites from Deer Hunter, they're in a cryptic format.

I would like a death frame for the bear, and a death animation if you have.

Most content is shown at the original thread, as the post directs to, though I appreciate you take this to my attention as new content is not shown in the old one.
I will add screens of new content from now on.

Also, what do you folks want to see next? That is what I wait for.

You could try using 3dripperdx on DeerHunter2 to get those sprites.

EDIT: Hey, this is not my post, who wrote this? I don't know you! prank post, prank post!

Unfortunately I have no capabillities for that, it sounds pretty lazy, but so far it have turned out fine to rely on the community to prove that they still got interest.

That's not how it works. You have to do something to show something, so people would still have an interest. And sometimes you have to do something (like ripping textures yourself) what you don't feel like to.

I mean, "hunting mod" is a serious idea to implement from the begining, and you have to understand what you got your hands on before you start working on it.

I do want to work on it, that is not a problem, but the latter is. I have never played a hunting game before, that is why I want the word of the people to guide me towards what they want it to be.

Daggerfall had no death animations. They kind of instantly died. As for Deer Hunter, like the dude said, its a cryptic format. I did get sound effects from it however.

Bloody Version

Less Messy version.

EDIT: I have pretty much all Daggerfall sprites. If need anymore from the game just let me know. I'm also willing to help with any sprites you need.
