RE: Suggestion: new sub-forum
Well, it's an interesting idea. Many people stick to one port and don't like/are too lazy to go to many different places to learn about project-related things. Having it all in one place surely sounds good.
Also, communities will get to meet each other, and many good things can come out of this. This also gives a good opportunity for an author to advertise their work.
I support. Why the hell not.

Maybe for once people will get to know more than LOL BRUTAL DOOM NOW WITH GENITALIA GORE!!!111 stuff. I approve of this idea.
RE: Suggestion: new sub-forum
I don't know.... Why would anyone be searching a Zandronum WADs forum for WADs that don't work on Zandronum? And won't it mostly be cross-posting from ZDoom anyway?
RE: Suggestion: new sub-forum
Meh. I lurk the ZDoom forum's project section anyways.
But I still support this idea.

I don't think there should be news/wads/tournament advertisements from other ports. This is Zandronum forum so it doesn't belong here by logic. If you are looking for a generic Doom forum, Doomworld is right for you (says the doctor).

Taking ZDoom for example, a large portion of the Zandronum community either only knows of ZDoom in name or simply does not have an account there, maybe rarely ever visit there.Qent wrote: I don't know.... If ZDoom-only wads were put out on here specifically in one place, those who are curious might go about trying some new things. I for one see nothing wrong with this idea simply on the count that at the least it might broaden the community's taste in mods a little more. After all, not every great awesome mapset for another port wins a Cacoward so a lot of great mods are often left overlooked unless you frequent the port's own forum.
On a more subtle note, it'd keep the less desirable members of the community that only we have to deal with here, not making accounts on ZDoom's forum to post stuff for a ZDoom only mod where they'd be swiftly met with ridicule because the posting standards there are different from here (though every sub-community has it's fair share of idiots, it's better if we keep our own to ourselves than to go sharing them).

How do you know this? Almost every Zandro player I know also has a ZD account.Taking ZDoom for example, a large portion of the Zandronum community either only knows of ZDoom in name or simply does not have an account there, maybe rarely ever visit there.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.

The logical flaw with this statement is that you're referring to the Zandronum players that you know, but the characteristics of this group of people that you know doesn't necessarily apply to the whole.TerminusEst13 wrote:How do you know this? I realize this is a generalization on my part as well, but from what I've gathered based on my time here there's still a section of the community that doesn't even have a Zandro account, and may only visit this specific forum for updates on certain wads, that subgroup most likely has little knowledge of or affiliation with ZD.
Then there's the people who would belong to that group but actually do have accounts here to make posts on the aforementioned certain wads, they're basically in the same boat.
Then you've got people who do know of ZDoom but prefer to stick to Zandro. [...]
As you can see the list gradually gets closer to having people who are notable in both communities, but that group ends up being a minority when accounting for the whole. This is a community for a specific port, naturally the majority of people will be focused on this and not devote time to visiting other sites for other wads for ports they don't have, but if the mods were brought to them in a subforum that they could choose to look at if they were so inclined (rather than have the current projects forum be cluttered with wads from multiple ports, unless we added tags for these threads to refer to which port they're for), then that could spark interest in those other port projects without having to make accounts on the other forums to be involved with them.
It's a matter of convenience and while this is not a necessity, the subforum could turn out to be useful.

I'm not really trying to saying what happens to the dudes I know also applies to everyone, I guess I misphrased. Whoopsie~
I'm just curious how you could definitely say the majority of people only know of ZDoom in name, and if you had access to data or whether it was just mostly gut feeling and/or asking around, because my own experience was the exact opposite. Obviously, being a mod means you have more interaction with more folks, so.

This idea isn't bad at all. I'm in for supporting this as well.

RE: Suggestion: new sub-forum
If every port's forum advertises every other port's important projects, you'll quickly get a ridiculous amount of thread duplication over the forums and have the discussions for a single project scattered over many forums.

RE: Suggestion: new sub-forum
There already was a whole website made years ago for this exact purpose, altdeath.
The forum registration is currently closed due to a forum software update, but when it opens back up, we can redirect people there for a port-agnostic forum.
EDIT: I almost forgot, the Doomworld editing forums are a bit more tidy than they were 4 or so years ago, that would be a good place to start

Ah, like at DoomWorld ?
Well,... this is Skulltag/Zandronum specific, So that being said its most likely to stay that way, but... I support this idea.
Simply because in general ZDoom engine IS supported by former Skulltag and so is Zandronum.

Well, i've got a different thought about this. Yes there are some idiots, and yes they are not going to change the situation. Only the adult-type people CAN change them. You feed them, or you don't feed them. Thats where the solution is. But i have said that many and many times by now, but nobody believes in this. End of this discussion.Grymmoire wrote: (though every sub-community has it's fair share of idiots, it's better if we keep our own to ourselves than to go sharing them).
