What title says. I tried to post this on Development area but I have no permission ;_;

I just wanted to be sure before putting this on bugtracker as a feature. A GENDRDEF would be good to have too. This should be primarily for use in SNDINFO in player classes and player's sound class in decorate. Alien, cyborg, mutant, etc come to mind.

What do you think ?

I think we have way too many 13 yr old boys pretending to be girls on this port as it is (Teletha, Icymew, etc). In answer to your question I think we need to keep gender options to a minimum to avoid more of these wierdos cropping up over the place.

I actually asked this to make soundpacks for class based games without interfering with their stuff, but ok :/

This happens everywhere. Not just here. and yes, it's terrible everywhere else too. I don't think this 'more genders' request will have any effect on that at all.

What I can tell he's trying to use the gender field to make sound profiles for the player, blurring the actual "gender" meaning.

I don't think it's a bad idea..

It's my bad I wasn't clear enough in OP. It's hard to just make lots of A_Jumpifs in the player class' decorate to simulate that, not that it can't be done, but it's very tedious and tends to bug. Zdaemon like sound packs are good to have, but for player classes instead.

Kinda hacky if you ask me. Creating new genders just for the sake of using your own skin sounds in ZH/GVH?

Who says they'd be just useful there ? Soundpacks are useful for anything...

Well, Actually I don't think its such an great idea. For example : An doom class of soldier from TF2 would need much more SNDINFO becuase of those new genders. And that's just more effort for nothing.

No you wouldn't, do you even know how it works ? It would use TF2 sounds for the genders specified in SNDINFO, and others would use that too. (ie. unspecified genders) If they get replaced by a new gender, then the replaced gender will use the soundpack's.

Well im am not such an SNDINFO expert you know. Zdoom wiki had an example of playersounds which are ordened in gender. That's why i thought that it would be more effort.

I don't think transgendered would be necessary. Because if it were the case, your replacement pack would just swap out whatever particular thing you wanted to focus on. If anything, that's exactly what the Other category is for.

Example: You go out of your way to make a female soldier for that one TF2 wad that came out a while back. Male's gonna use the TF2 solder sounds, female would swap out the skin for a modified version of Crash (preferably the new one coming out) while some dude really sweet talks his girlfriend to do the voices. The Other could simply be the male sprites with the female voice.

If appeasing everyone's your goal, transgendered as it's own category would actually need to be split into the subcategories --again, if you really wanted to have full options. And while that's nice and all, I don't know a damn person patient enough to code up five variations of one skin. Ror what Ivan's requesting, it's basically to allow female varients of what are essentially class wads with nothing but dudes, along with something funskin related like a robotic voice or some zombie/monster varient. Having the basic 3 options of Male, Female, and Etc. cover those bases.

TLDR; Throwing in transgendered would be time coded for a feature very unlikely to be even used. That's what Other is for.

Seems like some people here are confused. This is not adding new genders. It is reusing the "gender" field for something else (arguably more useful).
