Zandronum on Android/Apple devices

#1

Post by HellBlade64 » Fri Aug 30, 2013 5:13 pm

I have a Nexus 7 by Asus, running Jellybean 4.5 and I figured it'd be worth mentioning the idea. There DO exist Doom games on the Android/Apple devices, but 99.9% of them suck. So what do you guys think? :hmm: ???

this has been talked about too often then its worth, this is never going to happen no matter what.

simply because its too difficult/time consuming, besides why would you want to play zandronum on such a POS device?
gameplay would be too cumbersome on a tablet so even if they could/want to do it it would be a waste of time in the long run.

At least we (who don' t have working PCs) would have a way to be able to play Zandronum with friends! :)

it would be easier to port to windows phone then iphone/android since it support c language (that´s mostly what zandronum is written)

You have two options
1)Buy a windows 8 tablet and play zandronum
2)Give 10.000 dollars to some dev to port it

It can happen, but only on the newest devices and by streaming from your computer (kinda what Nvidia does now with their handheld).

Plus the people on android/apple tablets would be please to have a fully functional smooth working DOOM-ulator. I don't know if you have a android device, but the markets emulator section is pretty much overrun with shitpiles upon shitpiles of craptastic DOOM-ulators. So if the ZandroTeam did make this a reality, per-say, it's popularity among android users (like myself) would spread wider and faster than the recent Yosemite Park wildfire.

There needs to be:

a) a sticky'd thread about this, linking to the existing posts explaining why it will never happen

b) a forum script of some kind that automatically bans you if you create a thread with "Android" or "iOS" in the title

c) more praise to Lord Igor

Stickies should appear in the "vie new posts" page since am sure most people use it and never know if the topic they are reading is a sticky or not.

Even if that's "yapt" , I'm trying to start something similar :

I'm adapting the Q3A engine for a game I'm developping using the Android SDK & NDK .

I think that it should be as easy as compiling the game, with some differences, I guess. SDL is already there, making a masterserver withing the app, and then running the game aswell, downloading wads would be the tough part.

Well... then you might want to get a job, so you can earn money and repair your PC and/or buy a new one.

Because what're you asking was brought up way too many times and was shot down about just as many times.

I see Android as more of a possibility because as far as I know, it's Linux on ARM Architecture.
But then, I bet the Zandronum Developers would say "Wait for ZDoom" or something similar.

you miss The part that you Will need to translate all The source code to java...

thats why I think it would be easier to port it to wp, because it suport native c/c++ ...

for now, buy a x64 tablet and be happy with zandronum...

Why translating to Java when there is the NDK which can be used to compile C/C++ files?
