SG/SSG, most definitely. Simple, versatile ... effective. That being said, each weapons has its own place in Doom. They're not just weapons; they're tools.

Standard weapons:
1st place - SSG ( anyway :D)
2nd place - rocket launcher
3rd place - BFG9000
Skulltag weapons:
1st place - BFG10000
2nd place - grenade launcher

Considering you can go through all of Doom 1 with a shotgun, I'd say it's my favourite, just since it's grown on me

It also defies that stupid "video game shotgun" stereotype and has a decent range

Doom 3's shotgun is about as satisfying as it gets too, even though it's the manifestation of video game shotguns with the range of a fart
