The trans people I know would probably be a bit offended by the fact that people felt a need for there to be a separate trans category and would just use the gender for their preferred gender anyways. I don't think it'd be a very good idea to add in something like that.

I think it's more like "Male (default), Male 1, Male 2, Male 3, Female (default), Female 1, Female 2, Female 3" than alternative gender identities.

As would mine, I'm actually glad I got someone to call out on this. Frankly when I heard the suggestion the first time I couldn't help but think it would only be used for jokewad purposes, and I'm still 100% convinced that's all it'd be used for. Thanks for the contribution!

Yes ! That's exactly what I'm willing to do. To do such a thing now we need to work around so many hacks in both decorate and acs it's not even worth it. With this request it'd be possible to make soundpack addons for any skin, class or mod with ease.

Though the gender is used by other parts of the code too AFAIK, obituaries for instance.

Maybe if there wa a specific soundclass entry and let the user define in Decorate what sound classes the class could use, like
player.soundclass "Male", "Male1", "Male2", "Male3", "Female", "Female1", "Female2", "Female3"
First listed would be default. Just a thought..

Oh right I didn't realize that. Your idea is far easier to add and basically does anything needed.

No offense, but I think that even more genders is a pretty bad idea. Even 3 is too much, imo. Personally, I don't even think it should be a player variable to begin with (with the exception that it alters obituary strings, but that's about it). Gender (or any combination or lack thereof) should generally be handled by player class/skin only, and the gender should only reflect the player themselves, not the character they're playing as.

That's what I was thinking as well. Simple voice pack stuff.

It follows in line with Quake 2, which ZDoom derives some minor bits of code from if I recall. Quake 2 has Male, Female, and Cyborg.

It'd be interesting to have a GENDERDEF (GENDRDEF?) and the sound classes to go along with them as proposed.
