I'll link this topic by the extension of "Free". I do however, note the very real distinction between f2p and free games. This will be the only post I make for F2P games.

Assault Cube, Assault Cube Reloaded, and Red Eclipse are the only ones I can think of at the moment. They all pretty much play like quake with military shoot bangs or space guns. They're all made on the same engine which is Cube and Cube2.

Nexuiz, free and open source online FPS. Online and offline with bot support. deathmatch, capture the flag, all that good stuff. Last build was 2.5.2, renamed "Nexuiz Classic", then I believe it has been continued for consoles. The free version has tons of fan-made material, which I always love.
