I think the thing I miss the most was the mod quality back then.

I love bad mods. Like, legitimately love bad mods. A lot of people would go "oh man this is just shit" and shut it down, but that's why I love it. Because Skulltag was much more behind in ZDoom revisions, there were a lot of hacky workarounds and nonsense for issues that're pretty easily patched now, and it's adorable to see these little scraggly guys crawl around and bump their head on things. Now, it's a lot easier to fix things (and thank God for that).

Swan Fox is legitimately one of my favorite Skulltag-era mods. That shit is a masterpiece.
XXX-Mercenaries is a very close contender. (Sorry Aenima, I know it probably brings up bad memories for you)
Mock 2: Oh My God That's An Ugly Titlepic Edition. (Been looking for this again, haven't found it for my new wad collection)
fzeroxv20.wad
All of those Pokemon Doom servers.
EWeps and p0wer_x.
All those soundpacks where the sound effects are taken from movies and TV shows.

Aaahhhh, to be young again and thinking this all was the coolest shit ever.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

Yeah sure why not, if it doesn't have MP issues that need more maintenance than it's worth.

Shit, I've been around for awhile. The fact that Skullrant has been dead for like what...5 years...makes me feel old. Not only that, I remember when FNF originally started. I think FFI_Z was one of the first things played on FNF. I remember when I lurked the Skulltag forums and Carn talked about Xenaero acting all emo over something. Then I much later hear Xen talk about how he pissed Carn off in a LMS by rocket jumping on FFI_Z and hiding out. I put 2 and 2 together and thought maybe 2 occurrences are related. And of course there's always plenty more drama to discuss...

The first time I actually played Skulltag multiplayer was when I was 14. I had ST on a flashdrive and put it on public library computers with my brother and a buddy. That's back when people still played Skulltag's built in Skulltag(gamemode) and CTF maps. Anybody remember that ctf map where the mid was underwater and a massmouth statue above the water? How about that ice map?

EDIT: Shit, I remember when skulltag actually didn't support COOP! Almost every active server was worth joining.

lol remember tuber?

And yet you referred to her as a he and made some sort of conjecture about her hating mods because her stuff doesn't get played, meanwhile she made one of the most popular mods on Skulltag? Or are you saying that she hates mods now because they cause her duel maps to get overlooked? Not trying to stoke drama, I'm just kind of confused.

Massmouth Mansion maybe? And i forgot the name of the ice map. The name was something about temperature.

I'm talking about the one that came with 97b and caused problems IIRC. You had to delete it to fix them. Plus I think it was just the Q3A announcer.

I remember these things, from old times... But not really much.
  • Armageddon2v5 being popular... I miss those days.
  • Old jumpmaze days, when it was just causal fun, beginning from jumpmaze-v5. For this I also remember, when supergod servers were down, [iddqd] server was most popular. When the official jumpmaze rearranged the maps about difficulty, [iddqd] used the "old" map list.
  • Having constant connection problems, being forced to be only able to spectate and watch others.
  • Youtube trailers for cutmanmike's GvH, with sjas, jitterskull, creeper, and marine, hunter, cyborg.
  • (May not be true at all, my memory looks terrible) My favourite IWad, Heretic, having slightly more servers than ZDaemon.

Nope, didn't even know there was one. Do you have a link per chance? :)

I actually do, as a matter of fact. Step into my time machine...

http://www.speedyshare.com/86hMs/Island.pk3

Here's something you might not figure out on your own. Put your weapon away so you can climb. All you have to do is jump while looking up towards the ledge you want to climb.

As it is, it seems more like a tech demo of sorts. I'm not sure what kind of potential, if any, this can have as something to play on a server. Perhaps this could be interesting if joined with a separate wad that adds like a pistol, hunting rifle, shotgun, etc. It may make an interesting lms map.

It's a shame ambitious projects like this have never been finished. There's this, Spooky House(another firewolf project), Wadaholic's realistic looking wad, Blackfire...

Blackfire was an Apothem project. It was supposed to be massive. Imagine in a 64 player server, an outdoor area with a bunch of buildings. This outdoor area would be the size of a standard large Deathmatch map. You have to control other buildings. These buildings you go into are then ALSO the size of standard Deathmatch maps. Controlling certain buildings would give you different advantages if I recall correctly.

I'm glad he didn't finish it though. That made him focus on something more epic like WDI. There is just a couple of horror wads which are interesting and scary. He'd just waste too much time just to make something out of it, I mean, it's hard to make horror for doom. I think there was a video somewhere, in which Firewolf introduced Spooky House to Carnevil on Quakecon or something.
If I remember right (I might be mistaken though) TheShooter7 was the first who made parkour concept. Shortly after The Island appeared, what makes me think TS7 and Conflagrated merged both projects. I also afraid that TI would lose to Jumpmaze in any way, not to mention that JM might would have implemented parkour system in the future. Just to remind The Island sort of exist as a map for whodunit.

Maybe I remember that incorrectly... But I think there were more heretic server in SkullTag... Or was it opposite way? I just know for sure I was looking for the heretic servers...

This sounds like an interesting concept. Do you recall any of the examples of the advantages buildings gave?
