Cube 2 is very quake-like and I found it somewhat fun

I've played Nexuiz much more than Cube 2, which i've only played a handful of times, but liked the game enough to keep it in my hd. I have no idea what the community is like now for nexuiz, or if it even exists, but I would recommend it because of the insane number of maps available + support for offline bots. Can't go wrong there. When I played online a while back, the players were mostly hardcore competitive, crazy good at the game. I also loved the graphics and flexibility of the configuration settings. In the end, I tried both games, liked them both, and still have them. Sorry to write a book :v:

Great! one custom map I specifically recall is Quimera. It's very small, but it plays and looks fantastic.

get it here http://maps.nexuizninjaz.com/quimera_nex.pk3

ALSO, nexuiz has a later alternative FPS project, known as Xonotic. It looks, plays and feels like nexuiz, but is a continuation of it. I have it as well.

I know a few games that are free, freebie, good-lookin' and awesome to play!

Vindictus (MMORPG)
phpBB [video]
The [video] tag is deprecated, please use the [media] tag
http://en.vindictus.nexoneu.com/NXEU.aspx (EU)
http://vindictus.nexon.net/ (NA)

Description: This epic hack 'n slash game has all the possible ways to slay hordes of enemies. Break their back by folding them (you can legit fold an enemy 'n break their back in that way..), reversing gravity and smacking them back on the ground, homerun them to across the map; you name it! With the all the awesome classes available, you'll never be bored to play this game endlessly!

Requires registration on Nexon. Be careful with which server you're on.

Hawken (FPS)
phpBB [video]
The [video] tag is deprecated, please use the [media] tag
http://www.playhawken.com/ (Requires Steam! Now Open Beta!)

Description: In this fast-paced mech FPS, you can take on other players or bots in giant maps with great detail! Although this game requires a good graphics card, any average computer can basically run this... without lagging and such! Even with the graphics on lowest, the game still looks magnificent! This has a system like League of Legends; You earn points in-game, which you can use to buy parts for your mech, or buy completely new mechs! Earning points is very easy for new players, since you get a shitton of achievements, which give you bonus points!

Path of Exile (Requires Steam!)
phpBB [video]
The [video] tag is deprecated, please use the [media] tag
https://www.pathofexile.com/

Description: A game almost equal of gameplay and style as Diablo 3, Path of Exile has everything you need in this "top-down"/"third-person"-ish game. With any character, you can have endless possibilities to customise in any way you like. You can legit create a strengther witch, that normally requires intelligence to upgrade rather than strength. Or be a superfast and dodgy tank with over the top dexterity. There is nothing you can't build on this game. As an Exile, you must fight your way through vast armies (seriously, you have no idea how many fucking mobs you can kill in a single area...), leaders of cults and even other exiles called "Rogue Exiles" (mobs that are basically like a player, that randomly appear while you're progressing in the game). Especially in the third part of the story, things get really fucked up and get a sort of setting as Doom; zombie-like mutants with different powers, fountains of blood and giant piles of corpses (once you get there, you'll see what I mean..) and much more!

Nope, not pay to win at all. You can get boosts 'n such, but the all the items that you need in game can be accessed by using in-game money. To alter your appearance of your character into something bawss, you do need to pay actual money. Up 'till now, I've paid like 50 euro's over 3 years or something. So that's pretty ok :D

You can also buy pets with actual money, but they don't do that much; but are useful in a way :o In in their own way, hehe :) (one can mine ores for you, another can pick up items for you while you fight, ..) Those small things.

Even though I do know F2P but pay to win games, I ain't gonna list em.

OpenArena
Pretty much a open source Quake 3. I enjoy playing it from time to time. Its also on Android which plays decently well.

I would recommend these installers, instead.

Pokemon 3D recreates the Gen II Johto region through the eyes of your trainer.
The Ur-Quan Masters is a project to have Star Control II playable on modern computers.
Who could forget Dwarf Fortress?
OpenRA is a modern source port for C&C1, RA, and Dune 2000.
Who thought Cry of Fear was scary?
The Spring Engine recreates multiple incarnations of Total Annihilation in 3D and also handles a parade of original games.
MegaGlest is just another freeware fantasy RTS.
Warzone 2100 lets you design units!
Finally, all the Marathon games have been released as freeware and run on the AlephOne engine.

Dead Island: Epidemic is free on Steam!

How to get the game: Since it's in "Open Week-end" you must download and install it during this week-end to own it (Don't worry only ~1.8 GB). After the Open Week-end is over it will remain in your library.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/222900/

By the way, it's a MOBA game, like League of Legends/Defense of the Ancients. Just saying for those who didn't know.

The Very Organized Thief

"You are a thief. A very organized thief. Find all the items on your checklist and then escape the house...Just be sure to do it before the clock sounds off...

The game is designed to be neither easy or hard, and slightly different every time you play."

I recently found a game called "The Expendabros" on Steam, which is free, that is as you can guess, a game based on the cast of The Expendables. I had some great fun with it, definitely should give it a go if you like platformer games.
