Offers a sequel that not only builds off the first game, but goes farther than the first did.

In my opinion, I really like it when developers bring back something that players love into their new games (sequle)

... make obscure references and make no effort to explain them. Bethesda does this sometimes and I love it.

Like Doom. :bobpage:
Doom 2 was basically Doom with a super shotgun and more annoying enemies. Besides that, it might as well have just been a PWAD. It didn't go farther at all.

Doom 3 doesn't exist.

At the risk of being even more of a pariah around here, I actually liked Doom 3. It was an entirely different flavor but that didn't really matter to me. Although, they could have done more with the engine.

One more thing, I like when developers make backstories unlockable by beating the game. (Though this usually gets added in later versions of the game.) It's always interesting to see how situations were before or after the main character got there.

More textures, don't forget more textures, oh, and an engine that had fixes done to it from the original Doom1 engine.

Uneeded super qoute, but yeah. Doom 2 was the better game.

I agree. I don't see what all the Doom3 hate is about. It stood on its own, as a shooter in its own right, with dramatic re-imaginings of the original monsters and weapons.

And it was damn fun to play. :v:

I also had no problems with Doom 3, heck I say that it was a good reimagining of Doom if it was made in newer hardware.

None of the past comments on doom 3 or the goals for doom 4 suggest this.

Doom 1 maps are pretty lighted.
Doom 2 maps are lighted.
Doom 3 maps are barely lighted.

Compare them yourself :>

I was thrilled by Doom 3, because, wow, Doom on a new engine, with fancy graphics and (some) story, but unlike classic Doom it has a low replay value. (I liked to replaysome levels not for awesome gameplay, but rather for visual experience, like this level with crane, or with this "empty" level with awesome early morning lightning, or the ones in Hell, also ROE had a few very climatic ones).
And this lack of light is really tiring. I was so surprised when I played some custom map, lit well, and it looked really awesome, despite claims that idtech 4 only works well in darkness.\
(I can sense a split, but may this thread be writable? I don't really see Doom 3 thread on these forums. And maybe we'd be able to find partners for Open Coop...)

Have bosses that are complex and challenging, and gives you a sense of achieving something when you finally defeat them; no dumb quick-time events covering 98% of the fight. Bosses in games like kingdom hearts, I mean the earlier god of war bosses were pretty cool, but I kinda felt like 'meh' about the button mashing by the end of some fights

I love when a sequel comes out and completely redoes a game rather than just be more of the same shit (half life 2, doom 3, heretic 2, etc)
I love when there's a level select option (an REAL one, like in HL2, where you select chapters you completed, not a console or cheat code), imo this adds more replay value to single player because now you can easily revisit your favorite levels.
I love when the weapon names are more basic ("Assault Rifle", instead of having 10 of them like an AK47, M4, HK 416, "Shotgun" instead of SPAS-12, Mossberg 550, etc)
I love reloading weapons.
I love non-linear explorer friendly maps with lots of secrets. (Basically, they allow you to walk through where other games would've put an invisible wall or RETURN TO COMBAT ZONE message)
I love when there's humorous dialogue spoken by the characters.
I love when female characters actually have clothes on. (This is a video game, not a porno)

... keep the game updated.
... interact with the players on the forums reading the feedback given, discussing it, and modifying the game according to the feedback.
... produce a real F2P game where you can enjoy everything without having to spend a penny to avoid hours of grinding (TF2 but PoE)
