Quakecon 2014

#1

Post by Condor » Thu Jul 17, 2014 7:32 pm

To any lucky attendees of this year's Quakecon, please do us all the favor of leaking info on the new Doom installment they're working on. If anything, we might as well start hoping for the best from this.

Also on a side note, no Carmack discussion panel is going to feel so weird this time around. Listening to him for a few hours was like a staple for all previous Quakecons. Any other thoughts on this? Please, feel welcome to discuss.

A Quakecon without Quake, Doom, Carmack, and an emphasis on Elder Scrolls and other Zenimax games isn't really Quakecon.
The Ranger - New class for HeXen.
ZDoom Wars - I drew some pictures.
Samsara - Some class-based mod I guess?
Metroid: Dreadnought - I am a dumb fanboy.
DemonSteele - ~come with me to anime world~

There's still the big quake (live) tourneys and BYOC lanathon, which was basically the original purpose of the event anyway.

This is one reason zenimax sucks so much.

Only things that I care about are the new DOOM and The Evil Within. Nothing else matters.

It was fun to hear about the new Doom game, aka BRUTAL DOOM 2.

Inb4 retarded band wagoners complain only because brutal doom was mentioned.

Positives I've heard:
Run n gun fast paced action, no health regen or cover based shooting.
"Lots of enemies", interesting and varied A.I.
Excellent visuals.
Various nods to the original games and even the doom bible.
Lot's of vertical movement, jumping etc..

Negatives:
Some lame sounding brutal doomish mechanics (fatalities/finishers, possibly points for cruelty etc...), however I've also heard that what was shown was unobtrusive and there were no quick time events.
Levels shown apparently looked somewhat linear, however it was just a short demo, and linearity isn't always bad depending on the context.

Someone was spreading a rumor that there was a 2 weapon limit, however I asked someone at the event and he confirmed that you had access to all weapons.

Let's just hope they don't overdo it with the BD stuff.

This. I'm so tired of Brutal Doom.

I'll be very happy if they decide to NOT make the game horror themed in dark places. That pretty much killed DooM 3 and multiplayer last time around, I hope they actually care about multiplayer this time.

^ Yup. That would be the only reason I would go. I don't mind so much the Zenimax stuff, but I do wish they would change the name if they are going to spend half the floor on Non-Id games. As far as the new Doom game goes, I don't mind the brutality of it so long as they return the fast fps roots. As long as it doesn't turn into Bulletstorm Doom, I'm fine with it.

Pfft, forget Doom 4, Tox was DESTROYED by Dahang in the 3rd match. Many tears were shed in Europe.
