Summary0004608: [Strife, online] Conversations with NPCs derived from Peasant10 do not start online
DescriptionPeasant NPCs in particular the ones deriving from the Peasant10 base class are not talkable to when playing online.

This makes the main quest unstartable entirely, essentially bricking the game permanently, because the first guy you need to talk to is an NPC named Rowan, who happens to be a Peasant10 NPC.

(The randomly-wandering non-quest-essential peasants are not affected; they are all talkable to)
Steps To Reproduce- Start a Zandronum server, coop, Strife as the IWAD, starting at MAP02
- Join the server, kill the initial guard dudes
- Walk out the first door, walk forward a bit then turn left, there is an NPC standing behind a counter
- Try to talk to him by pressing +use. The conversation won't spawn, so you will never get the first main quest of the game.

I can't reproduce, I can join a server and speak to Rowan fine, even go as far to complete his mission.

Tried this myself, and also couldn't reproduce. However, I set sv_shootthroughallies to true, and for whatever reason that causes the issue described to occur. It even occurs in singleplayer with the CVar on. Perhaps that might be related?

Yep, the trace to find an actor to talk to wasn't ignoring sv_shootthroughallies, and the Peasant actor has the FRIENDLY flag. Confirmed with Nash on Discord that shootthroughallies was the culprit, and the above commit does fix it.
