Summary | 0004456: Voice chat volume bypasses main volume
Description | I just heard voice chat for the first time in 10 years, and it was so loud my neighbors could hear it. - Setting main volume to 0 did nothing - I had to panic-quit and lose all my earned xp and weapons (in the mod I was playing) - The default volume for 'Voice chat options'→'output volume' is 1.0 - I normally have main volume at 0.15, which is the same volume as media player, youtube, etc, at 100% (so voice was 0000004:0000006 times louder) - Why does main volume not affect voice volume? - Why are the voice volume steps 0.1 whereas main volume steps are 0.5? (I can't set it to 0.15) - Why is there no way to 'preview' voice volume? Too much bullshit. Version: 3.2alpha

FYI, I recently changed the input/output voice volume sliders to step up/down by 0.05:'https://foss.heptapod.net/zandronum/zandronum-stable/-/commit/dc890eb46b14d501f3cb7369e2c1e40ba112531a [^]' and it should be consistent with the other volume sliders in the sound options menu now.Quote from Zom-B I think you're misunderstanding something. The "main" volume isn't like a master volume that controls the volume of everything (which Zandronum doesn't have yet either). To me, it sounds like you're referring to the sound effects volume, which should only apply to in-game sound effects. I never considered voice chat to be part of the sound effects, so adjusting the sound effects volume shouldn't affect the voice chat volume. For instance, I might want to lower the volume of the sound effects, but still hear other players' voices more clearly, or vice-versa. If one wants the voice chat to be quieter, they can simply adjust the output volume slider to their preference. Quote from Zom-B There's a microphone test feature in the voice chat options menu to test the volume of your own voice. There's very little point in trying to "preview" the volume of other people's voices, if that's what you're suggesting. AFAIK, I don't know any application with a VoIP feature that does this. |
