Summary | 0000903: A different Channel for Skin Sounds and a new volume bar for it |
Description | I saw some pretty good skins with rather low volumed sounds, I think it'd be great to have an option to increase volume of player sounds and have a seperate channel on them. (Like in Zdaemon) |

I seemed to find that the higher quality a sound it, the lower it's volume is... I amplified a sound to the max (44.1khz 192kb/s mp3) and compared it to (idk exact quality, but it was 11khz wav) and the mp3 was substantially quieter. Also if a sound is stereo it's even quieter than that.

Should that be posted as a seperate bug? Because shouldn't all sounds that are amplified to the max(no matter what quality)should be the same volume? |

It'd be great if it didn't increase volume of doomguy's actual sounds, as they don't need that. But if that can't be done, even getting skin sound volume is great !
EDIT : Or if it just increased the sound YOU hear from your skin, that'd work too. Whichever is easier to add.

Or maybe both things could be done, like fix quiet ogg files and quiet high quality sounds and add skin volume... Because in some servers, morons make taunt spam aliases. I would love to still taunt, but not have illucia raping my ears with 1 taunt every 7 tics, like turn down taunt volume. In my opinion, this is a very good idea and i would hope to see this added. And how come ogg files come out quieter than wav or mp3 anyway? It was annoying for me, because i made a skin with 50+ ogg files in it and had to convert each one to mp3.

Hmmmm... I just re tested it in an offline skulltag window and the mp3's weren't THAT much quieter... they were only very slightly quieter... But if you use ogg's they are quieter than the mp3's... I would like to see ogg working right in skulltag someday... But meh... I was gonna record an example but hypercam is an ass and won't record my audio device... Just look at Ivan's skin as an example of quiet ogg's. I think ivan's idea of volume for skin sounds is a very good idea... I would love to see (if its possible) volume for certain skins. Like something like $volume working to make sounds louder and not just quieter. $volume is pretty useless in my opinion. |

About some sounds actually sounding quieter than normal...
For some reason this version/implentation of FMod seems to play sounds with a stereo channel much quieter than usual.
Easy fix is to change the channels in the sound file to mono (single channel). |

Does the quieter sound issue happen only online or also offline? |

If the skin sounds are too quiet then maybe they should get amplified. Duh. |
