Summary | 0000056: Bots don't operate correctly when loading save games |
Description | If you load a game that was saved in a bot match, bots won't load correctly and do weird things such as sit still forever or not respawn.
Now I know bots aren't too important, but my mod happens to use bots for the single player, and has some exclusive stuff giving the player a reason to actually go through these bot matches.
A simple solution that I would be more than happy with, would be to just simply disable saving games while bots present. |
Steps To Reproduce | Start up Skulltag's singleplayer campaign.
Save the game.
Load the game.
The bots are now messed up. |
Additional Information | Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch has a single player campaign with some unique stuff in it such as single player scripted boss fights and a story. Newcomers to Skulltag (trust me, there will be a LOT) will not understand why loading a save game in "single player" causes the bots to mess up, and will report it as a bug.
I think a fix would prevent a lot of hassle for the ST devs, and myself ;) |

Notes |
This is a long known issue and was reported for example already here.
Unfortunately, fixing this is non-trivial and probably not worth the effort. What if I just disable saving when there are bots in the game? |

I would be very happy with that! (as I said in the description ;)) |
Oh, I was so busy digging out the old report that I overlooked that you already proposed this ;). |
This should disable saving when there are bots in the game. Please test if it works as intended. |
It disables it from the menu, but through the console, it's still possible to save the game while bots are in-game. |
Thanks, I forgot about console saving. This should also catch console saving. |
Yeah, I can't save through the console now.
But while testing, I noticed that if you start a new game, save the game, close Skulltag, then open Skulltag up again and load the saved game, adding bots in the loaded game will make Skulltag crash with a very fatal error. This happens in 98c as well, though. |
The amount of bugs you find en passant is frightening ;). Anyway, revision 2948 should fix the crashes. |
Yes, it seems to have fixed the issue.
But one more final thing. When you load a saved game, the bots you added in the former game follow you into the loaded game even when there weren't any bots present in the saved game. Is this intentional? |
No, that's not intentional but should be fixed now :). |
