Summary | 0000458: Skins do not work if Chex3.wad is used as the IWAD |
Description | Even though there are skins in my skins folder, and these skins can be added as bots, the bots look like the base skin (chex warriors).
|
Steps To Reproduce | Launch Skulltag with Chex Quest 3 as the IWAD. The only skin you will find is the Base skin, all of the stock skulltag skins are missing. |
Additional Information | Torr told me to try running these skins in zdoom, but the stock skins didn't even work with Doom2.wad as the IWAD, so I must have done something wrong. |

Skins DO work in these IWADS:
Heretic
All Doom games, including FreeDoom
Skins do not work in these IWADS:
Chex Quest and Chex Quest 3
Strife
Hexen (most likely due to classes, though.) |

ZDoom doesn't support SKININFO (which Skulltag's stock skins use). You'll need to try a skin that uses S_SKIN. |

I took one of skulltag's stock skins (Strife Guy) and renamed it from SKININFO to S_SKIN, it still didn't work. |
|
|
|
The syntax of S_SKIN and SKININFO is different, you can't just rename the lump. Just take any ZDoom compatible skin you like to test, you don't have to use one of Skulltag's stock skins. |

Oh, I didn't notice that S_SKIN didn't have "color" or brackets
I converted the Strife Guy skin from skulltag to S_SKIN. In zdoom, it works in Doom 2 but does not work in Chex Quest 3.
(i.e., if this is a bug, it's in zdoom too)
Should I take this bug report to the zdoom forums?
EDIT - I uploaded the skins file I used. I apologize for not re-naming it, I thought of that right after I hit upload. This skins file is for zdoom, though.
EDIT2 - I also did not notice that S_SKIN doesn't have the name in quotation marks. This, however, doesn't make any difference to the behavior.
EDIT3 - Getting rid of the spaces before and after the '=' sign also does not change the behavior (it would be strange if it did, but I don't want to waste your time again)
EDIT4 - I posted the bug on the zdoom forums

Thanks! Can you drop a note here when the ZDoom devs comment on the bug report you made over there? |

No reply yet... that's a bad sign. Perhaps this isn't important or useful enough for zdoom for the devs to fix it, since skins are almost useless in single player.
Would you consider fixing this just in Skulltag, though? |

ZDoom essentially went 'not fixable' on this one. It hasn't seen an update for 2 years so I don't think we need to keep this ticket around. |
