0000437: "compat_silentpickup" doesn't work if "compat_soundslots" is set to 1
If the silent BFG trick flag is enabled, the silent pickup flag will not work.
This is a ZDoom issue.

This is a trivial issue for offline play, but for OS duelers, it's serious. FYI, they have this working over at ZDaemon.

It seems that it fixed the issue. But you can still locally silence the BFG by picking up an item. In Chocolate Doom, you can't do that.

Since this has no effect on the gameplay, I'd say we should just live with that.

Well, it would be nice to have it working like it did in vanilla, but at least it's consistent with ZDaemon now.

That's true, but since this is just a tiny thing that doesn't effect the gameplay, we can put it on the "nice to have, work on it after everything more important is done" pile ;).
