Do the fluctuations happen all the time constantly, regardless of whatever mods or maps you're playing? Also, does changing the value of "cl_backupcommands" (0-3) affect the severity of the fluctuations.
At first glance, I can't see how sending backup commands could be causing the FPS fluctuations. Although it increases outbound net traffic it shouldn't be dropping hardware performance. Especially if you mentioned that they persist even after disabling them or restarting Zandronum. It sounds like something else could be at play here. Have you also tried loading a new config to see if the fluctuations stop? |

The fluctuations occur whenever, wherever on whatever. Also I have an update that might help trace the source;
So I deleted my config and let Zan generate a new one again. I've done this before to see if it would help the situation, but I was getting the same results. So this time I didn't just copy and paste settings over and did all the display options myself in the menu/console. Soon as I booted up, with a new config, I no longer have the fps fluctuations but some serious screen tearing and what can only be described as "mouse lag" where my mouse was permanently feeling input lag making my view appear to be in 'low fps' which is probably more what I was experiencing before. Turning Vsync on fixes this, but it isn't ideal.
The next day I went into a server to see if tinkering with the resolution might solve it. I went all over the aspect ratios and even turned on forced aspect ratio but this didn't change the massive lag I was getting on my view or the screen tearing. But for some reason changing all my settings back to what I had previously (1600x900 with no forced aspect ratio) fixed the constant 'lag' and is just something that occurs frequently and at random. I changed my resolution to 1920x1080 since then and it hasn't put me back in that constant 'lag' state so I don't know what happened.
There is no rhyme or reason to when the 'lag' occurs, time has no input nor enemies on screen nor amount of linedefs or where I'm aiming even. |
