0002209: Include Doom II map set
Hello. John Romero[1] decided to release Doom II map's source codes, which means that any map compiled from it is legally distributable. Someone did compile the entire Doom II map set[2].

In theory, this could be used to enable compatibility in Doom II's servers, for clients who are using a different IWAD, like Freedoom. There is enough graphic resources available, under different licenses.

So, why not pack Zandronum with these map files, and let the community make the graphic resource? As a starting point, we already have Freedoom[3] resources, with compatible palette, COLORMAP, among other things.

This has potential to boost the player base greatly, since the installation would be easier for newcomers (installed and ready to play).

I don't know what it is with people assuming that everything released is free to use for any purpose. I see no indication that the maps were released under any license and thus copyright law technically states you're not even allowed to look at them (of course we all know that's not really the case). Furthermore, I don't believe Romero has any right to actually license the map data, it's essentially provided for educational use.
