0002013: Ordering of IRC tabs
I'd like to discuss what to do with current unfortunate ordering of tabs in IRC box.

Currently, it's difficult to associate given chat box with given network. All new chat boxes are appended to the right of the tab bar, regarding which network they originated from. If you're chatting on more than one network, you can get confused very quickly.

I've tried limiting movement of tabs within the bar so that you can't move chat boxes past the current network, and when you move the network you move the entire group. That's proven to be quite difficult to do in Qt.

I've considered disabling movement of tabs altogether. That way the program would control the order of the tabs. That could possibly cause some problems with visibility when there are many open tabs.

Another approach is the way XChat does this: networks and chat boxes are presented as a tree akin to the user list.

Does anyone have any idea what would be the best approach here?

I don't think there's much of a problem with allowing tabs to be moved across their network boundaries. Konversation defaults to traditional tabs and it allows free movement. Never really confused myself with the feature since I generally don't care what network the channel was attached to, and more importantly I rarely look at the network tab.

Now once I started being in many IRC channels I switched to a tree list (a la XChat). Mostly due to visibility. So perhaps if you want the best user experience the best way to go is to offer both?

I'm closing this for now. We'll deal with this problem when there are complaints or suggestions how to solve this.
