I would say this is an unlikely back port. The joystick code was rewritten sometime between the version of ZDoom Zandronum is based on and now. The SDL joystick code depends on those changes.

Looking at the change logs, it appears this was done for ZDoom 2.4.0 and may depend on other changes to the input system.

For reference, the SDL joystick code was added in r2939/r2940.
