0001148: Getting a 'lag spike' issue when playing on Zandronum.
Every time I play, every few moments, I hit a giant 'lag spike' that fudges up my game and keeps me from doing anything for a few seconds, opening menus, it literally freezes the whole thing, which oftentimes ends up in me dead. It will not go away. I have tried extensive recommended remedies for this problem. I've tried to update my graphics card drivers, which was successful, but made no difference, uninstalled Zandronum and reinstalled it after a restart, tried switching renderers, and tried different Iwads. I've done tests, like I said, on different Iwads, as well as different Pwads. It does this regardless of mods or not. It also does this whether or not I am online on a server, or playing single player. Oddly enough, someone mentioned that Zandronum ran on some part or something from Zdoom, so I tested Zdoom as well. Same. Exact. Error. I've taken the liberty of posting on Zdoom's forum as well, in hopes of getting whatever help I can.
Play.
I really have enjoyed Skulltag, and now Zandronum. I've never experienced this issue before. If someone can help me, message me or email me, somesuch. Missing out on Doom Therapy, guys. <3

can you record a demo of a game session with this problem and attach it here?

Unfortunately, I can't record demos with IDE. It absolutely refuses to do it. Got help from a few people, but it won't let me. However, I opened the console when the game first started, and got this.'http://prntscr.com/i983y [^]' <---
Sup with that?

Hm, I suspect it's a hardware issue. I had a similar problem with this and fixed with a video driver update.

As said here, if you can't update the driver there's really nothing we can do.

Do you have, perhaps, another opengl game with which you don't have problems?

I had an older version of GZdoom that worked fine, did not have this issue whatsoever. I tested it with recommendation from a friend of mine. Then when my friend had me replace it with the newer version of the same file, I experienced the same exact issue with it.

Also, that Zdoom you referenced to, was me also. I had posted anonymously, accidently. So, uh, yeah. Das me.

I had also tested this with no programs besides essential services running in the background. Closed out everything. Doesn't effect it.
Also, cl_capfps1 doesn't help at all. Same thing happens.
Could you recommend another opengl game for me to go test it on?

Also, I *have* updated my video card drivers. It had no effect.

If there is a program, possibly one I'm not sure about, making it do this, how can I tell? I've never had this problem with Zandronum before, and I don't know where to start with this.

Does the lag spike also occur when using the software renderer?

Edit:

I see.

Quote from Enjay
In the past, regular freezes similar to the one you describe have been traced to another program running in the background that does something every X seconds. So check to see if you have something running that might cause the problem.

Yeah, I don't see any visible program that could be doing this.

Do you have a copy of that? Can you check which version is it?

Since it also happens in ZDoom, it's not a Zandronum bug. It's either a ZDoom problem or a problem with your system. Judging from your description I'd say the latter is more likely. Do you have any kind of security software, like a virus scanner running in the background?

I think it might be a system issue, something running in the background. But how do I check for that? I don't have an antivirus running, I don't see anything hugely devouring memory.

Keep the task manager open, sorting the threads by their CPU load and watch for anything that's eating CPU time. BTW: Did you do a virus scan to see whether a virus or something else malicious is on your system?

Alright guys. I'm gonna cut the crap and just see what I can do about doing a whole fresh OS install on this harddrive. If it's still doing it afterwards, then we need to check otherwise. I'll be back to let you know what's going on.

It appears to be fixed! I appreciate your patience, fellas. If I run into the same problem, I'll post again here. If not, welp, it's gone.
