Summary | 0001147: Zandronum does not play sounds when command line gets long |
Description | Producing too long commandline with wads etc. makes Zandronum not play sounds (although music still plays). In some cases (on some servers for example), it also generates crash error on exiting (provided as attachment). |
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Run Doomseeker and search for Zandronum wads.
2. Make sure you have "Record Demo" option enabled (optional, makes your path a bit longer) and that all your wads are somewhere in a directory that produces long path.
3. Join UK Grandvoid Jumpmaze server OR UK Grandvoid Private CTF server OR UK Grandvoid clan scrims server (should work with NY as well).
4. When Zandronum is running you should notice lack of sounds, although music still plays.
You could also just make a batch file which runs Zandronum with lots of wads included and run it. |

I can confirm the issue, but it also crashes in ZDoom 2.6.1.

Quote from Edward-san please report it in the zdoom forum.
And thus yet another issue will remain forever unfixed, forcing launchers to do silly workarounds that wouldn't be necessary otherwise... |

Nah, now it seems Randy is more active so I suspect it'll be fixed soon. |

Please test if this fixes the issues for client side demos, i.e. preventing a client side demo name longer than 255 chars from causing problems. Note that the fix has no effect on single player demos, this should be fixed in ZDoom first.
It fixed the sound and crash issue for me, but the demos aren't saved. |
Do you use a file system that supports filenames longer than 255 chars? AFAIK NTFS does not. |
All I know is that I'm using Windows 7. |

Crap. Doomseeker encodes WADs required by the demo in demo's filename. Also, I didn't even known there was such limit. |

I noticed that the client will freeze when attempting to connect to a server that has too many WADs loaded through the internal server browser. And it seems that the server will not appear on the server list (sv_broadcast 1) if it has too many WADs loaded.
Client Freeze
1. zandronum -file 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111.wad 111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111.wad -host
2. Connect a client to the server through the internal server browser.
Missing LAN Server

Quote All I know is that I'm using Windows 7.
Then it's pretty certain that you can't have such long filenames. |

This should fix the client freeze.
I guess that the missing LAN server is caused by network packet size limitations. Implementing a packet splitting system for the LAN broadcast to handle this very unrealistic case (IMHO it's pretty safe to assume that nobody will ever need so many characters for loaded PWADs) doesn't make much sense, so I'll just leave it as it is. |
